Description

From School Library Journal Baby-Toddler—Adapted from Brantz's viral comic, this charming board book will amuse budding feminists and their adults. The title character refuses to be limited by gender stereotypes. She loves pink and blue; she plays with dolls and cars. The rambunctious little one revels in her body, her love of music, and her absolute baby-ness. The rhyming text is singsong and makes for a great read-aloud. The large, expressive eyes; bold lines and font; and bright, cartoonish illustrations will delight the youngest of readers. The strong girl power message makes feminism and following your dreams accessible to toddlers. The final image, of Feminist Baby in Rosie the Riveter–inspired garb, will elicit chuckles and bring the message home. VERDICT A laugh-out-loud, smart, and much-needed addition to board book collections.—Shelley M. Diaz, School Library Journal Praise for Feminist Baby : "[...] Brantz does the important work of making feminism accessible with a keen understanding of what kids need to know about feminism in their young lives. [...] Feminist Baby is not just for babies. It's for all of us." ― Roxane Gay, New York Times bestselling author of Bad Feminist "Not that you should have a baby for the sole purposes of reading a book to him or her, but if I were to do that it would be because of Feminist Baby . Disappointed by the takeaway message

I really wanted to like this book-I had purchased it for my nephew's 1st birthday. The art and colors were great but the take away from the "story" seems to be brattiness not feminism. There are lines about how "feminist baby...throws her toys because she wants to". As a feminist, I feel there is no real connection to feminism within this book.

Let's teach our babies from the youngest of ages that they don't have to listen to their parents, make as many messes as they want, and do whatever the hell they want to do. How about more children's books about teaching respect and manners?

Pass on this one: nothing clever or fresh or even feminist found here

There are more words in the Amazon description than there are in the entire book. Yes, this is a baby board book, but it is so infantile that it even bores a baby. There is little here that has anything to do with feminism, even the basest definition of the word. There is nothing new or clever or fresh about this book. I'm surprised it got the green light to be published. The ad I saw for this book when I ordered it had strip comics where the parents encounter the baby standing in her crib protesting our Patriarchal Society. If the book had been like this throughout, I'd have been much more interested and my own feminist baby would have enjoyed it better too. It's as if a person without any experience with babies thought this would be a good baby book. Boring and read cover to cover in less than a minute.
Perhaps we shouldn't be shooting so low as far as baby books go. The entire industry is over loaded with trite, boring, simplistic board books that offer the reader nothing. A baby's brain is like a massive super absorbent sponge, exploding with new stimuli and knowledge. Why not have baby books that heighten their experiences? This book is so passive and offers so little that I returned it the very day it arrived.
This isn't even a good gag book since it offers pretty much nothing other than a semi-interesting title.
Back to the drawing board for this one.

"Feminist baby bad!"

****Dont waste your money. "Missed the mark" is an accurate description. I was so excited when i bought this for my son, and so disappointed once it arrived! Keeping in mind that this is a board book for babies, I'm still underwhelmed. Not a good tool for instilling early feminist ideals in any child. It's cute. Just... Cute. Not a whole lot of substance here. *****And when i got to the page where "feminist baby throws her toys", my son said "we not 'sposed to throw toys. Bad baby. Feminah baby bad." From my barely three year olds mouth, "FEMINIST BABY BAD." Thanks Loryn Brantz.****

No relationship to Feminism

I pre-ordered this book because I was SO excited about the title, and I love her other books. Unfortunately there is no connection to Feminism and this "Feminist Baby". If you're genuinely interested in introducing Feminist topics to your young children, I recommend A is for Activist, C is for Consent, and My First Book of Feminism.

Great concept , awful story

I love the concept but was really disappointed in the book. It's like they got lazy with the writing. It says " feminist baby will throw up on you , feminist baby throws her toys." I would like to raise a feminist but definitely want to teach her to be respectful and condoning throwing toys isn't the message I wish to send. I was super disappointed with this book.

Is this what a feminist is?

This is such a waste of a book. Feminist baby sounds basically like a big brat, which is basically the reputation grown-up feminists often have too. What a waste. It could have been good, if the author knew what a feminist is/ could be.

Great Artwork, not a Great Message

Feminism is a great and powerful message. But teaching kids to throw their toys and food? There are definitely some behavioral issues in this book — things that both boys and girls should obviously be discouraged from, not encouraged towards. I think maybe the authors were trying too hard too push a message that little girls can act just as obnoxiously and irresponsibly as little boys.... and that somehow that is feminism... when it's really just bad behavior either way.

... so excited to get this book and and so disappointed when I read it

I was so excited to get this book and and so disappointed when I read it. This isn't a book about feminism. I guess it's a book about doing whatever you want to do ("feminist baby throws her toys," "feminist baby throws up on you"). But it's not a book about feminism. Lame.

This book is weird. I don't get what is "feminist" about this baby aside from the fact that she wears pants. I expected more.
