The world's most powerful police force. International reinforcements. Limitless resources.

Can she beat the odds, save herself, and dismantle an existential threat to liberty and freedom?

Lars Emmerich’s writing is sharp, edgy, a little dystopian, and exquisitely researched. FALLOUT’s gripping, twisting plot is terrifying — precisely because it is so very real.

Interview with #1 Bestselling Author Lars Emmerich

 Q: Who are your influences?
A: Too many to list! I started out years ago as a Tom Clancy addict, and I thoroughly enjoy many of Nelson DeMille’s novels. I regularly read David Baldacci, Vince Flynn, Barry Eisler, Michael Connelly, and John Grisham. James Patterson has redefined what it means to be a working author, and I read his stuff as well. My top picks are usually espionage and private detective novels, any of the thousands of thrillers and mysteries best sellers, and, of course, books featuring classic pulp heroes. And I’m greatly influenced by all sorts of nonfiction, as well. I read all the time, and I’m a bit of a magpie about the topics — science, economics, finance, politics, history, mathematics, engineering, biomechanics, medicine… It’s a big world out there, and I love learning more about it. Many of those topics find their way into my fiction, so I can justify it all as “research.”

Q: The Sam Jameson series has become quite a phenomenon. What do you think has been the driving force behind the books’ success?
A: I think Sam has something of a unique voice. She says the things we all wish we could say, and she gets away with it about half of the time. The other half of the time, not so much. I think she’s also a very human heroine. She has plenty of flaws and weaknesses, yet she accomplishes some amazing things. She’s kind of like every one of us in that regard, which resonates.

Q: You have developed personal relationships with your readers over the years, which is unusual in the publishing business. Was that a conscious choice?
A: Absolutely. Books are intimate things. They occupy a person’s mind and thoughts for hours at a time. Good books leave a lasting impression, and great books might even change the way we think about things, but all books are a relationship. I felt that Big Publishing did a great job of distributing novels, but at a very high cost — there was almost no way for a personal connection to form between writers and readers. But I always wanted a conversation. I wanted to learn from my readers, to hear what was on their minds, to listen to their criticism and hopefully improve the books I write. It’s been extremely rewarding, and I’m hopeful it can continue for years to come.

Not Really A Sequel

I bought this book after reading Parts 1 & 2 of The Incident which is marketed as a trilogy. This book is just another entry in the Sam Jameson series. It has recurring characters from the first two books but the plot stands on its own. While the jacket of this book says nothing about it being part of a trilogy, the first two definitely indicate that their plot continues into a third volume. IT AIN'T SO!! The books are fine if not as amazing as other reviews would have you believe. I'm not crazy about the books and wouldn't have bought this one had I known it was a stand-alone plot.

A parade of corpses killed by literary cliches

I can't understand the appeal of this book and why readers like it. Yeah, the characters are well-developed but the story is just a means to keep churning out corpses for the sole purpose of keeping the mayhem running. Every page has some time-worn action thriller cliche. I must have read "bloody mist" at least six times.
I don't have a problem suspending belief to support a good yarn but such unrealistic scenes play out, its just in support of a long yawn. For instance, there's a gunfight scene at the end in a ritzy neighborhood that must go on for half an hour but the neighbors don't call the cops. In the same scene our tall lithesome heroine manages to throw herself on the front floorboards of a truck and then do a somersault from the driver's side to the passenger's. That's a challenge for a six-year old. Of course the dialog is about what you'd expect from a six year old so maybe I shouldn't complain.
I'll grant the author is more realistic about his gunplay than Lee Childs. Some of the reviews compare the author to Dan Baldacci. They are right. He's just as unreadable and unimaginative. So many better writers of testosterone aisle fiction, pick one of them.

Great holiday read

This was a great story, with a fast pace that keeps you from putting it down. The characters are complex and likable and the plot keeps you guessing what the next twist will be. I can't wait to pick up and read more books by Emmerich.

Conspiracy

Whatever government theory you have heard is included in the story. Lots of action and plenty or opportunity for moral outrage.

Lars Emmerich has created a real character with feet in both the 20th and 21st centuries.

Sam Jameson is the kind of no-holds-barred woman I would like to be were I involved in the world of espionage and trying to make it in the "boys' club" that is Washington and the espionage business. She reminds us that without the feminine counterparts to those Bond-esque males we would have an incomplete picture of the spy world of fiction in which we would all so love to take part. I for one would love to be Sam if I ever grow up and get a real job, despite her perils! Her skill set and intelligence are way above the norm and I love the idea of a funny and smart female lead in a normally male-dominated genre. Lars Emmerich has written the novels we want for the women of the 21st century who are not afraid to be feminine and strong all in one package without. I love this character and I love her with her flaws and her strengths. She is totally human and not at all unreachable as a person for those of us who are flawed humans as well. I enjoy her immensely as I, too, have one foot in each century.

Fantastic!

I am a HUGE fan of Sam Jameson thrillers, and this latest installment was awesome as usual. Lars continues to delight with his fast-paced, never-ending action, and wordsmithing. Examples include a creative description of Thomas Jefferson as a " philandering miscegenation-prone oligarch"; and describing Sam's general dislike for flowers, he says " They reminded her of weddings and funerals and half-assed apologies."; and finally, generally useful advice " Not knowing where you were going while driving a stolen car was good epitaph fodder.". Great stuff, great read!

Another homerun for Lars!

Another Great book from Lars! I love the way he weaves current political and sociological issues into a non stop, erotic, suspence thriller. As with his other books, I could not put this one down. Excellent author!

Fallout

Well book three was the best so far thank goodness. I was a bit worried that this was also a so so book. Fallout is a good read. It did not disappoint. On to number 4.
