Description

Nick Carter,xa0best known as an incredibly talented member of the Backstreet Boys, has endured a very public struggle with addiction, family turmoil and health issues since the tender age of 12 years old. Together with the rest of the wildly successful boy band, he recorded multiple albums beginning in the1990s and continues to record and perform with them in 2013. Riding the wave of BSB's worldwide fame, Nick also released two solo albums and starred in a hit reality TV show, “House of Carters,” with his four siblings before the tragic death of his sister, Leslie. Carter has not made a secret of his ongoing fight with drug and alcohol abuse over the years he's spent in the public eye, but this book is his first complete account of his tumultuous life and pop-star lifestyle. Determined to use his own story to help change the lives of others battling their own demons, Nick writes this book with an open heart and a deep desire for truth and honesty. --This text refers to the hardcover edition.

Suprisingly Good!

I saw Nick Carter on Dr. Phil talking about how he has sobered up since the death of his sister. I bought his book thinking it would be a biography because I like biographies and like learning about people's stories. On the show, he hinted at a troubled childhood and that was something that enticed me to buy the book because I always thought of him as pretty charmed in life and not troubled at all as a pop star. When I started reading the book, I discovered that the book was more of a self-help book though he did give personal examples when he could from his own life. At first, I kind of scoffed at the idea that Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys could write a self-help book. Since I read self-help books all the time from true gurus like Gary Zukav and don Miguel Ruiz and Carolyn Myss, I thought Mr. Nick Carter would have nothing to offer me in the way of self-help. I was looking for entertainment, not advice but I found the book to be really good. I love Nick's positive attitude despite coming from a family where negativity and blame ruled. Kudos to him for not accepting the blame for his sister's death that his family tried to pin on him. I think this book can help a lot of young people who are drenched in negativity, especially those that struggle with drugs or alcohol and believe themselves to simply be "partying." In actuality, this would be a great book for ANYONE to read.

Not what I Expected

This was more like a self help book then Autobiography. I thought it would be more about his life then what it was.

Wanted a Bio not a self help book

Not sure who I thought I was fooling when I decided to read this book. I didn't even finish. I truly have no desire to finish. Reason being I have zero tolerance for a self help book. I don't need someone telling me the many ways I can improve or change myself. I can do that on my own thank you. Self help books get to be too preachy for me. If this was a straight autobiography I would have been done in October when I started this read.

Now this does not take away from the fact that I am and will continue to be a Backstreet Boys fan until I'm old and gray. And Nick Carter will be my # 1 crush forever. I was just hoping of getting more insight into his past and where he sees himself in the future without all the preachy nonsense.

Too long-winded

Some parts interesting to read but he repeats the same advice in a long-winded fashion. His insight and courage to change is inspiring, he just could've said it in a more concise way.
