One of the Best Books on Human Anatomy

This is the best simple, straight-forward human anatomy book out there. This books uses a combination of real images and realistic looking models to showcase the human body, and its various systems. The images are large and positioned front and center, which draws the interest and attention of children and adults alike.

Although the book does show images of penises and vaginas, they are only shown in the context of human anatomy (the body, the urinary system, reproductive systems, and pregnancy) as is appropriate for a book on anatomy. There are no depictions or descriptions of sex, making this book appropriate for all ages.

I loved this book as a child, and I bought one for my daughter so she can love it as well.

Perfect for kids' curiosity from the outside to inside

I read the comment about this not being appropriate for kids, and my opinion is the opposite. I got this anatomy book so my boys would know where to go for an appropriate place when they are curious about their bodies and nudity. I feel we do a huge diservice to kids about curiosity of bodies and nudity when they're young, then we avoid the topic and just let them "discover" it on their own when they're older, usually through pornography. Not scientific or informative at all! I feel we need more exposure to it in a scientific and artistic setting, so they don't go looking online or hearing it from inappropriate sources. I say if nudity is shown in a respectful (usually artistic) or scientific way, then it's okay and should be appreciated. The nude woman under Nervous System has very faint nipples and the pubic area is barely shaded. I feel this is perfect for kids. There is also a blank, white 3D figure of a male and female front and back with minimal detail the first page after Contents. It goes over all the basic systems with some writing but mostly pictures, so again, perfect for younger kids who are very curious about everything about the body.

Not appropriate for children, in my opinion

I was hoping this would be appropriate for my children based on other reviews, but sadly I don't feel that it is appropriate. There is a photo of a naked woman with nerves over the top of her body...nipples and pubic hair visible and all. There is another page that shows what looks like naked statues of men and women that are quite graphic. I know this is personal preference, but I will be returning the book because of it so I figured I would leave a review so if anyone else wants to avoid nudity they know to avoid this book.

Teaching 3 generations.....

I remember my mom having this book back in the 90's when she was preparing to go to nursing school. Last month (2015) I visited her and saw it. I begged her for the book for my kids (one of which loves the human body and wants to be a doctor) and she wouldn't let me have it because she said she still uses it (even after being a nurse for all these years). And it's in great shape still! So I bought my own.

My daughter stepped on something and cut the bottom of her toe. While preparing for her checkup (she's a Doc McStuffins fan) we looked at the book and she was able to learn about her foot, her skin, and why she saw blood. I LOVE this book! When my kids grow up and visit me with their kids and beg for mine, I hope this book is still in print (otherwise I'll have to give them mine :D ).

Proceed with caution...

This is a very thorough and detailed book. However parents should be away that there are photographs of full, frontal female nudity. Not expecting that. I don't see how it's necessary.

Parents, Be Aware

I would have given this book 5 stars but it has full female nude photographs in the sections about the circulatory systems and nervous systems. There are also reproductive diagrams in the back of the book but they are not actual photographs. Other than those issues it is an excellent book but use with caution.

Good for my curious 4 year old

Straightforward and simple descriptions with realistic, cleat illustrations. Good for my curious 4 year old. I bought a few body books aimed at his age group, but he definitely prefers this more realistic approach. So don’t shy away if you think it’s too “old” for your kid.

Great Basic Anatomy Book for Children

I purchased this book for my very inquisitive 5 year old daughter along with [[ASIN:0756609976 First Human Body Encyclopedia (Dk First Reference Series)]] for Christmas. Of the two books, she and I both prefer this one as it has wonderful, detailed images and better scientific information.

Great Buy -low cost , useful information, and a lot of pics

I am very glad that I purchased this book. I am taking an intro. level Biology class and this book was perfect for it. This book is well-rounded. It conists of a basic overview of Biology. The most important component of this book is that it has A LOT of pictures (which is vital for one studying the anatomy).

Four year old loves it

I bought this book for my four year old daughter two months ago because she wanted to know the names of all her bones. She is still enthralled with it and asks to read it daily. If you are looking for a very basic anatomy book to introduce your young child to their body and it's functions, I would say this may be a bit much for them to take in, but if they have the basics and are starting to ask you things that require more depth (what it the name of this bone, how do your eyes move, how do we talk, etc), then this book is excellent.
