Since then he has continued his work at Stanford studying lucid dreaming and psychophysiological correlates of states of consciousness. In 1988, acting on his conviction that lucid dreaming offers many benefits to humanity, Dr. LaBerge founded the Lucidity Institute, the mission of which is to advance reseaerch about the nature and potentials of consciousness and so apply the results of this research to the enhancement of human health and well-being. This book truly works. The only Lucid Dreaming guide you need.

I have literally purchased at least 10 copies over the years, either for friends, or because once again, I gave my copy away. There are so many books about Lucid Dreaming now, and I've read many of them; and this is the only one you need to start Lucid Dreaming.

When I first bought this, it was in 2010. I started reading it on Dec. 4th and had my first Lucid Dream on Dec. 30th. It took 26 days of using the book workbook-style, going through a chapter or so a night, and following the instructions. Started a dream journal the first night. At the beginning I never remembered my dreams at all. And just 26 days later I had my first LD. During the following month, continuing to finish the book during this time, I had 30 total Lucid Dreams, sometimes 3-4 in a single night.

I haven't focused on my dreaming for quite a while, but there have been a few times during the years when I wanted a refresher, and I always go back to THIS book. I have actually read the updated versions from LaBerge, and they are simply not as good and concise and as easy to follow as the original. Plus for $8 brand new, you can't go wrong.

Something for potential Astral Travellers?

This is really well laid out, written in a way that keeps you interested, and best of all, it works! And it's all so simple! I used to have lucid dreams a lot as a child, and I wish that someone had taught me more about them. It's a wonderful adventure and escape from reality. Since reading this book I've had some hilarious things happen when I've become lucid. Things that shouldn't! For example, in one dream, once I realised that I was dreaming, I thought "This railing should become malleable now if I want it to." It didn't. I was a little outraged, but it happened again in another dream with a window frame. It remained completely solid. I wonder if it might be because I was flying in a plane both times and my sub-conscious wasn't willing to let me play like that. Must ask the author some day. My success came in a dream where for some reason I was with a group of people riding around in shopping carts. Go figure. I suddenly realised that I was lucid and called out to them that this was a dream, and if we wanted the shopping carts could fly. And off we went! Very funny to remember in the morning, and a good way to get one of 'those' looks from my husband ;)
If you're interested in Lucid dreaming I thoroughly recommend this one. If you're toying with the idea of Astral Projection, but your fears prevent you from getting 'out there' this might be extremely helpful. I read in an Astral Projection book that lucid dreaming is another way of taking that next step.

A great primer into lucid dreaming

It’s an enlightening read. Until I read the book, I could not describe the dreams I have had where I new I was dreaming and tried to control what was happening like some magical character and after reading book, it’s an incredible sensation to do things that most people only dream about (pun intended).

Exploring the world of lucid dreaming is a comprehensive treatise into the theory and application of lucid dreaming – dreaming with the conscience awareness that you are dreaming. In this book, the author delves into every aspect which can very generally divided into how to have lucid dreams, what you can do in those dreams, then applying that to problem solving for personal growth. Using a combination of research and anecdotes, the author offers several methods and inspiration to encourage the reader to delve into the unique state of lucid dreaming and how controlling your dreams can result in personal breakthroughs and become a unique tool for problem solving.

I really enjoyed this book. There are various methods to try out so the reader will have to find one that works best for them – it’s incredibly fussy too. Like learning anything new, consistency and perseverance are key for your results but well worth it if you have ever accidentally woken up in your dreams or just curious about what dreams are made of.

Great book

If you have no idea what lucid dreaming is, or if you are trying to become better at it, this is your book.

It is extremely clear and easy to read and you will find pretty much all of the information you will ever need here.

I would recommend that you buy this one first, and then if you are interested in the subject, you can buy others to complement this one.

I have more books on lucid dreaming, but this one is definitely my favorite and I always re-read it.

A wonderful, inspiring, informative book.

Simply reading the book has been one of the best ways I have found to remember my dreams and to induce lucid dreaming.

A reviewer noted that for some people reading the book is enough to create lucid dreams, and she is right.

The book contains several accounts of people having a variety of experiences with dreams and dreaming, and these accounts alone make for a great reading experience. Add to that scientific knowledge concerning the dreaming brain and mind, a variety of dreaming techniques that work, and an interesting model of how dreams come about, and you have a fascinating and useful book.

The idea of schemas, proposed in the book, is interesting and informative. Schemas are basically ways that information fits together in your mind based on your expectations and beliefs. Your schemas will define what you dream about and how it is you dream about it. The model of schemas tells us why our dreams tell us so much about ourselves in terms of what we really think and feel. The model of schemas can also help you explain to yourself why you have certain dreams.

I recommend this book to anyone who wants to live more fully in that portion of their lives they spend asleep and dreaming. The book helps to open up an entire realm of adventure.

Eye Opening

This was the second book I've read on Lucid Dreams, but easily surpassed the first by including much more practical information for the average lucid dreamer. You'll almost want to take notes when you read this, as some of it is so useful and eye opening that you won't want to forget any of it. A terrific guide.

Probably the best Lucid Dreaming book available

I have read a few lucid dreaming books and have had over 100 (documented, as I write about them in detail) lucid dreams. I personally feel this is probably the best lucid dreaming book available. It is concise and packed with information on how to attain lucidity in your dreams. I haven't been pursuing LDing for a while due to the sleep deprivation it can cause.

It is too bad that there isn't a Kindle version available.

Still the best lucid dreaming book on the market

This book is hugely responsible for teaching me to lucid dream. I've now been enjoying lucid dreaming for over eleven years, and I can lucid dream at will. Beautifully written and sprinkled with fun activities that help train the reader to lucid dream. This book will sweep you away to, literally, the land of your dreams.

Dream the impossible dream

A small, yet concise book about Lucid Dreaming. It goes through lengths to describe how dreams work, how to begin Lucid Dreaming, how to recognize when you're Dreaming so that you can go Lucid, and even how to prolong your Lucid Dreaming experience. I would highly recommend this book to anybody who's looking to begin Lucid Dreaming.

Conscious Awareness of the Unconscious

Though somewhat heavy on dream research Laberge's work serves as an
admirable and practical guide on how to achieve lucid dreaming and the
conscious awareness and participation in dreams that can help overcome
the entrapped feeling we associate with nightmares. However, I found
that reading David Dahl's THE BLUE DEER & OTHER DREAMTALES did
more to heighten my participation in, and memory of, my own nocturnal
life.
