awesome book series

My 12 year old nephew and I have been enjoying this series over the past 6 months. We just received book 5 which I read last night (I "devour" them before we read the book together). Now I'm wondering when the next volume will be released! The characters are well developed. The story is well written and certainly keeps the attention of both of us. The science, geography, and history imbedded in the story is educational and interesting. According to my nephew, the books would make a great movie! I'm just not sure I can wait 6 months or more for the next book -- and haven't seen any indication the 6th book is near publication. I actually thought Book 5 was going to be the end (it was advertised as "book 5 of 5") but certainly not where it left off when I turned the last page last night. I'm not sure how my nephew will react to the death of one of the characters in Book 5 -- it "hurt" throughout the rest my reading. However, death is real and needs to be dealt with.

Worth the read!

We love this book series. We learn about real places around the world as we read. My son & I read this together so we have something to discuss about how much we liked or disliked something, what we think will happen next, etc. can’t wait to keep reading!

Captivating story - could use better editing

My kids and I have really enjoyed reading this series together. My main complaint is that they don't seem like they were edited very well. It's probably not something most people will be bothered by, and I won't stop getting the books, but I expect better from National Geographic.

Example: In this book, on page 57, the text has the wrong character name with the dialog (it's inconsequential):
"I can't wait to see the hatchlings," said Zane.
"Me too," said Zane."

There's an instance of "Emmett sad sadly" instead of "Emmett said sadly" (page 108). In the first book, Cruz is looking for a book by the call number, and it says something like "this row had 700-7100", and call numbers don't go into the thousands - it's just another typo.

Aside from needing a proofreader, we roll our eyes on occasion with the plot. "What do you mean nobody told an adult after someone tried to kill Cruz?" (happens in almost every book).

But we love the traveling around the world and learning about so many things. So we'll keep getting them as they come out.
