Description

"I love this series! I like paranormal elements in novels, but I couldn't quite imagine how the author would pull off a fairy in a mystery series. She did—and in spades! I was immediately hooked." ~ Nancy Haddock, national bestselling author of Basket Case "A whimsical cozy mystery that pulls readers in, charms them with a graceful fairy named Minette, and solidly hooks them with a relatable and plucky amateur sleuth, Kate Brewer. I felt like I was watching a TV episode of a favorite mystery series as I tore through this delightful book. Mystery aficionados, don't miss this heartwarming, satisfying cozy!" ~ Heather Day Gilbert, author of the Barks & Beans Cafe Cozy Mystery Series

Features & Highlights

  • The 1st book in the Smithwell Fairies Cozy Mystery Series!
  • Weary of her ordinary life in ordinary Smithwell, Maine, Kate Brewer jumps at the chance to help an elderly neighbor, Ray Landry, investigate an unsolved murder. But Ray’s memories of the killing are at odds with the official report, and most people in town would rather forget about the tragic event. When Ray’s investigation turn deadly, past and present collide and Kate must act quickly to uncover the truth.
  • As Kate hunts for clues, she makes a discovery that will change her life forever. It seems that Ray’s talk about fairies in the woods of Smithwell was more than just talk—and reality isn’t quite the ordinary thing Kate imagined it to be. Can she and her new sleuthing partner, a determined little fairy named Minette, solve two murder cases before a third body shows up?
  • This light, cozy mystery offers a clean read with a female amateur sleuth in a small-town setting. No foul language, sex, gore, or graphic scenes of any kind. It can be read as a standalone, but it will be enjoyed more as part of the series.

Nice clean read!

I really enjoyed this book. It is a clean read without the extra stuff (sexual innuendos, foul language, etc). The character was relatable and believable and the storyline was magically satisfying. Will definitely read more by this author.

Better with no fairy?

I liked the mystery part of the book. The fairy angle just seemed thrown in, really out of place. Also the way the fairy was written was more like a children's book character then a character in an adult book. I enjoyed the mystery part, take out the fairy and I would have given 3 or 4 stars. I like fairies, not my first fairy book, just this book was ok. I probably will not be reading any more in this series. I really liked the cover though, especially since autumn is my fav.

Enchanted

Although I am a hardcore mystery fan, I have never been particularly taken with stories about ghosts, witches, etc. that assist in solving mysteries. Enter fairies...what a fun, delightful book! Kaufman's description of Minette and her lightning fast maneuverability reminded me of the hummingbirds that frequent my feeders. I found myself flinching with Kate whenever Minette would flit around. The story progresses quickly and does not fail to surprise in the end. Looking forward to reading more of Kaufman's books!

Good for a rainy day...

I enjoyed this book, it was nice not to have to wade through graphic sex and foul language. The only thing that annoyed me was the formatting of scientific names. Species names are never capitalized and the entire name should be underlined or put in italics, the editor should have known that.
