Excalibur meets Warhammer 30k

I recommended this to everyone reading Horus Heresy series. It is surprisingly good Horus Heresy book that doesn't involve the Horus Heresy.

This book is best described as divided into three parts.

Pat 1. A childhood training montage.

This part of the book falls rather flat, it isn't a good indication of the glorious second part of the book. Mostly serves as an intro to The Order.

Part 2. Excalibur like section of the book except Excalibur is the heads of monsters.

This is without a doubt the best pre Imperium lore/backstory I've ever read in the 30k Universe.

Part 3. Typical Astartes Warhammer 30k Story.

This part is best kept rather secret but it is well worth your time.

Lead me to an Army

I loved this book, it led me to build a DA army.
No other HH novel starts the way this book has. Before the Dark Angels and before you're introduced to the Primarch. This is the Genesis of the 1st Legion, the cornerstone and history of the why things are now in the Chapter and an insight on its rituals and organizations inside the Chapter.

There are sad reviews on this book that don't even take into account that this book gives you more history and fluff than many of the other Horus Heresy books do not. This is the beginning before the coming of the Emperor and that is pretty cool. To read about feudal knights fighting against a planet, its mysteries and other knight houses, the finding of a Primarch, the founding of an Order, the coming of an Emperor, of a Legion. This book is fantastic. The people who give this book a bad review just sound petty.
This book is a rabbit hole into so much more.

Good book different feel

This story had a different vibe compared to the others. It was more of an origin story dating back before the dark angelsbecame astartes. I liked it because it was unique. Docked it one star because it's hard to integrate a middle ages vibe into a space opera. All in all good.

Dull !!...previous heresy books way better. Skip this one!

The character development is horrible in this book. If you're looking for an engaging 40k book this isn't the one.
