"Derriere la Grille" or how "life" can prevail

Maude Julien wrote an extremely honest and moving account of her traumatic childhood in the north of France. She was deprived of parental love and comfort. She was isolated from the outside world and forced to adhere to her father's severe and twisted philosophy of child rearing. I couldn't put this book down and at the same time, couldn't wait to get through the unending trials and abuses this girl had to endure.
I met Maude in Paris back in the 1990's and that made her story even more compelling and emotional for me. She is a very intelligent, strong and beautiful person that I will never forget.
