Features & Highlights

  • “A sentence to Dartmoor Prison is a sentence to a living hell…”
  • Lord Charles Sheridan and his American wife, Kate, have heard some truly awful things about Britain’s most notorious prison. But Dartmoor and its mist-shrouded environs hold special appeal for both Sheridans. Kate hopes to find inspiration for her new Gothic novel, while Charles plans to implement a fingerprinting program at the prison—and arrange a meeting with one of its most infamous inmates, Samuel Spencer. He’s convinced that Spencer—a Scotsman who admitted to killing his wife—is, in fact, innocent. What’s more, he believes he has the evidence to prove it. But Spencer continues to maintain his own guilt—and, as if to confirm it, he soon stages a daring prison escape. Lord Charles and his acquaintance Arthur Conan Doyle are most perplexed by this odd turn of events. And when a body turns up on the moor, it’s up to the two men—and the clever Kate—to discover if the missing convict is connected to this murderous new case…

This book 50

But kindle doesn’t sync with goodreads to know the number. It sucks because kindle is not my only source of reading.

Dactyloscopy

After reading a few back-to-back e-books written by authors who churn out a new book every couple of weeks, I have to read something with a bit more substance. This book fits the bill. Once again, Lord Charles Sheridan uses forensic science, which is in its infancy in 1901, in investigations. Dactyloscopy (fingerprinting) plays a big part in this book, which is a well-crafted mystery. Susan Wittig Albert and Bill Albert, writing as Robin Paige, never disappoint in this Victorian mystery series.

Great series! Rereading all of them!

Very enjoyable although a bit darker than some of them. Usually they are a bit cosier than this one was, although maybe just my mood.

I am off reading the next one. Just two more and I will have read all twice!!

How exciting!

Well this novel was quite intense from time to time. I have never visited the moors in England or anywhere else for that matter. Robin Paige made the story come alive and it was like I was really there. It was also really interesting to find that he includes real people in his tales. I could hardly put my tablet down while reading this exciting mystery. Don't forget the story takes place during a time of many inventions and a good deal of social changes as well. It is a great read and not full of extreme violance. Go ahead jump into a really great story. Enjoy.

Good Pace

This is one of Paige's best books. The story moves right along and never lags. If you liked any of her previous books, you will enjoy this one.

Enjoyed

I really like the way the author brings the criminal identification methods we have today in to her stories of long ago. Great reading.
