A Great Novel That is Also Thought Provoking

This is one of the best novels that I have ever read.

Alcorn not only wrote a great story, he also explored some important issues in the process. If you are looking for great Christian fiction, this would be a great place to start.

One issue that he really explores is what heaven is like. If you are one of the many who has thought that Heaven may be great, but you want it to be a long time before you ever leave this wonderful Earth to go there, this book will challenge you. Alcorn paints a picture of Heaven as such a beautiful and exciting place that it may actually create a yearning in you. He certainly doesn't view it as a boring place with non stop harp music being played like so many preachers and Christians seem to do.

Alcorn will give you some fresh viewpoints to ponder. I encourage you to buy this and enjoy!

Update - 12/24/2020: I just finished reading this again after many years. My opinion has not changed. Great story.

SPECULATIVE, BUT SPECTACULAR

Alcorn's presentation of the afterlife is speculative by his own admission, and this is certainly a weakness of the novel. Readers who want their concept of heaven to be determined by Scripture must be discerning and be aware which aspects are Scriptural and which are speculation. Despite this weakness, however, this novel spectacularly demonstrates the eternal consequences of our response to the gospel, as well as the emptiness of modern culture.

The insight into the secular bias of the media that the reader gains from this book alone makes it worth reading. Christian fiction at its best! - GODLY GADFLY

I like to read alot.......

and since becoming a christian, I have enjoyed reading christian fiction. Like all good art forms, you have your great, good, not so good, and awful. This is a great read. It is well written, with a good subject matter, with a serious underlying message to boot. I won't go in the synopsis(others have in their reviews) but this books comes highly reccomended. I would also recommend Dominion. Enjoy.

Good but not a must read.

I thought the beginning of the book pulled you in but it left you waiting for more. The book carrys you on a interesting journey and leads you to an abrupt stop. I felt like the author did have time to come up with a decent ending so he rushed through the ending. I felt cheated. The author draws an interesting picture of what heaven is like. The imagery alone makes the book work the read.

A rare treat that will alter your perspective

Randy Alcorn is one of the finest authors in fiction alive today, and this book is one of the best you could read. Its stand on abortion, integrity, and the page-turning suspense all wrapped together into an unexpectedly delightful must-have keeper on my bookshelf.

One Of The BEST Fiction Books I Have Read

I agree with the reviewer that said this book is not for the politically correct, it isn't. This book does show some of the realities of our world however. The mystery plot was pretty easy to figure out but the depth of the other issues kept the book interesting. I appreciated someone talking about what the media is really like.
