Features & Highlights

  • You can run from your past, but it will always catch up.
  • Nastasya has lived for hundreds of years, but for some reason it never seems to get any easier. She's left behind her days of debauchery to find peace and forgiveness at River's Edge, a safe haven for wayward immortals. There she's uncovered her family's epic history, reclaimed her magickal powers, and met Reyn, whom she dubs "the Viking god." Just as she settles into her new life, Nastasya learns that her old friends might be in town....
  • Reuniting with her gorgeous and dangerous ex-best-friend, Innocencio, Nas wonders if she'll ever be truly free of her dark legacy. Is Incy dangerous, power-hungry, and wicked? Or is he the only one who truly understands Nas's darkness? Either way, Nas is desperate to find out who she really is -- even if the answer kills her.

❤️❤️❤️

Love the Series which it continued on but everything has an ending. I would definitely recommend the series if you’re into Sci-Fi romance. There’s a little bit of action here, a little drama there, some romancing here; just a bit of everything needed to keep you enthralled. Enjoy!!

Darkness Falls

Darkness Falls by Cate Tiernan recaps book one, Immortal Beloved, while Nastasya (Nas) is trying to deal with the regrets that keep springing into her mind and she wants to learn from her mistakes and become a better person. Then things start to fall apart and she ends up running away and somehow Incy finds her. Incy hides his true self, but only for a short while and then everything comes to a head. Cate Tiernan keeps the humor going even in dire circumstances and this just holds true for Nastasya's character and personality. Enjoyable read and I am onto the third book, Eternally Yours.

Immortal Beloved was one of those books I really didn’t expect to love. Sure, I read her latest novel Darkest Fear and loved that one for its creativity and diversity, but it took that experience to get her Immortal Beloved books on my radar. The audiobook of the first book that listened too convinced me this series was meant for me, so here I am, having read and thoroughly enjoyed book two. I wish I’d listened to the audiobook for this one too, but Darkness Falls is a strong, funny novel and sets things up beautifully for a solid finale.

If the events of this book had happened halfway through Immortal Beloved, Nastasya would have gone right back to her old life for another century or two instead of realizing something is very wrong with Incy and the life she led with him and their friends. The first novel was very slow because there was a lot of nasty stuff within Nasty to work through, but all that hard wok pays off in Darkness Falls and the obvious, natural changes in her will make readers proud of her like they’d had a hand in reforming her. NASTYYYYYYY YOU HAVE GROWN SO MUCH AND I’M SO PROUD OF YOU is verbatim one of the notes I had written down as a guideline for this review.

For instance, her teacher Anne’s sister Amy comes to visit River’s Edge and immediately sets her eyes on Reyn, the boy Nasty has very conflicted feelings about and is doing her best to resist. Whereas she was hating hardcore on Nell in Immortal Beloved for the same thing, Nasty notices Amy’s lust for Reyn and gets over it. She doesn’t hate on Amy or anything beyond an immediate bad thought or two, which is a huge improvement compared to how she thought about Nell. This is due in part to what she goes through while back with Incy. After all she goes through with him, she finally, finally realizes she’s being a moron and pushing everything good and important away because she’s afraid. YES. YES. YOU GO, NASTY.

Sure, things are still predictable and it’s all a bit slow at first, but even in that, I really got to turning the pages once I had some free time and Darkness Falls had surprises in store for me within the predictable stuff. In all honesty, the only reason I can’t give this five stars is because I didn’t listen to the audiobook. I chose not to because the third book never got an audiobook and that is a SERIOUS CRIME considering how awesome the narrator for Immortal Beloved was, but alas. Stuff happens. She made Nasty’s fun snark even better and a joy to listen to, but reading it in print took away some of the life the narrator gave Nasty and made it slow to get into at first. But on the bright side, the diversity of race and sexuality is still here and it’s still awesome.

(If you must ask, I wanted to switch over to print because I knew I wouldn’t be able to listen to the entire trilogy. That’s why I didn’t go with the audiobook.)

I’ve got mere days to read Eternally Yours and complete the trilogy before I go back to the limited-book-storage life of college, but I’m up for that challenge. I refuse to leave this series unfinished for months longer and keep my gorgeous copies away from one another. Want some paranormal snark with heart, depth, and diversity? Get this series. Seriously. What are you waiting for?

LOVE

I absolutely LOVE Cate Tiernan! She has been my favorite writer since 2002 when I first picked up her Sweep series. I re-read her books multiple times a year. Darkness Falls is a great book in another of her book series. I love the storyline of immortalism and the fact that Nas has been immortal since the middle ages is so neat. I love that she's gone through so much and Reyn - swoon - please. I just want more more more. Read this series. You'll love it!
