Repetitive

After reading the first book, I wanted to give the author another chance hoping the writing would get better. Read the 2nd one and then the 3rd to give a new writer a chance. Some parts of the stories are fairly interesting but I skipped over much of the descriptive parts that I found boring. Some things that kept coming back in all the stories that bothered me were the heroine's need to break into other people's rooms. Also a grown woman who has been to hell and back sticking her tongue out at her romantic interest is very juvenile. The use of the incorrect nominative case over and over where the objective case should be especially coming from a writer who was an English teacher! AND the every popular curling and biting of the lip. OY! Hanging out with her very toxic aunt is a wonder to me. This book became tedious with the same discussions over and over and the going back to the deck chair always looking for the German spy. Ay yi yi. I will not be reading the next book.

My favorite one yet

I received a copy of this title from the publisher, but all opinions are my own. 4 1/2 stars rounded up to 5. Danger on the Atlantic is the third title to feature Jane Wunderly; it works as a stand-alone title, but the first two titles are great so why not read them first? This book finds Jane and her suitor Redvers working undercover as a married couple on a trans-Atlantic voyage attempting to identify a German spy. In addition to trying to find a spy, Jane embroils herself in helping a fellow passenger, Vanessa FitzSimmons, when her husband turns up missing and the crew questions if he even existed in the first place. A series of strange events involving Vanessa call into question her sanity causing Jane to wonder if she's projecting her own past onto Vanessa and her plight. The dual mysteries are both well done; both are given the right amount of attention without one overshadowing the other.

From a character standpoint, I appreciated learning more about Jane's past and how her first marriage continues to impact her reactions to events, including her relationship with Redvers. I liked how supportive Redvers was toward Jane and her instance that Vanessa wasn't crazy and deserved their assistance. Without Jane's aunt's presence, there was increased focus on Jane and Redver's relationship, and I appreciated the developments in said relationship. This series continues to get better, and I can't wait to read future titles.

Good characters, peculiar mystery

Anyone who liked the 1st two Jane Wunderly books will enjoy this one. Jane and Redvers are on the high seas -- Jane back to America, and the spy doing his spy thing aboard ship, with Jane! I was eager for more action, increased suspense, but somehow, found the story lacking in these elements. Lots of cloak and dagger, for which I'm fond, but everything seemed circular. And no dead body/bodies for most of the story. Sorry if that's a spoiler. Not meant to be since there is intrigue. However, wonderful romantic touches. I look forward to book #4, which comes out in a few months. Ms. Neubader has created an enchanting lead character.

Mystery at sea

Jane goes undercover with Redvers on a cruise ship posing as husband and wife to find a German spy. Jane is such a great heroine with a strong sense of right and wrong and the ability to stand up for herself at a time when women are not treated equally. Jane does get a little distracted with helping another passenger which Redvers doesn't want her to do, but Jane stands her ground and insists that she can do this and the job that they have been tasked with. The setting on the ship provides a type of "locked room mystery" since there is no escape until the ship docks in America. There are vivid descriptions of the ship and its passengers and crew. Another well written book in a great historical series.

a hunt for a spy aboard a luxurious ocean liner

DANGER ON THE ATLANTIC by Erica Ruth Neubauer
The Third Jane Wunderly Mystery

Jane Wunderly finally has her chance. Redvers' supervisors have allowed her to officially be part of an investigation. She and Redvers, posing as husband and wife, have boarded a ship headed to America. Their mission is to find a spy selling secrets to the Germans. Jane soon gets involved with another passenger, a woman who claims her husband has disappeared. While the crew thinks she's just a hysterical woman whose husband never existed, Jane saw the man and is determined to help, despite Redvers' misgivings. Certain she can pursue both mysteries at once, Jane's not as confident in her ability to deal with her relationship with Redvers, a prospect that's both thrilling and frightening.

An elegant cruise across the Atlantic in 1926 in first class accommodations with a dashing man who values your intelligence and instincts; what's not to love? Indeed I love everything about this book. From the detailed descriptions and the well developed intriguing characters to the finely plotted mystery, the third Jane Wunderly novel had me enthralled from start to finish.

While the mystery, well, mysteries, are at the forefront, what's just as compelling is the character and relationship development. When doubts were cast I felt the disillusionment and heartbreak, and hoped things would right themselves. Jane is savvy and self sufficient, yet also vulnerable making her a protagonist you admire and feel for. Redvers continues to be a dashing man of mystery, but we get to learn more of what makes him tick. All of the secondary characters, and I do mean all, are finely crafted, each suspicious and worthy of note.

With memories of World War I and the sinking of the Titanic still fresh in their minds, a hunt for a spy aboard a luxurious ocean liner is at once glamorous and worrying. DANGER ON THE ATLANTIC delivers an emotionally charged, perception challenging, thrilling adventure at sea. I can't wait to see what happens next!

Great Setting

I love any book set on a cruise ship so I jumped at the chance to read this one. I am already a fan of this series and to find a story that follows Jane and Redvers on the Atlantic made me happy. The story did not disappoint. There were so many different things going on to keep your interest and the mystery kept me guessing until the very end. The story is fast paced and gives so many wonderful details about what traveling on a ship was like in the 1920s.

Murder on a transatlantic cruise.

The third in this series finds Jane Wunderley aboard a transatlantic cruise ship with the enigmatic Redvers. Redvers is tasked with uncovering a German spy and his American contact. Jane becomes involved with a socialite, Vanessa, who reports her husband missing. This is a fun mystery series, and Jane’s personality will win you over. Recommended.

Murder and spy-hunting on an ocean voyage

Jane and Redvers get quite a bit more intimate on this new addition to the Jane Wunderley series. It doesn’t take much persuading for Redvers to convince Jane that her help is essential in tracking down a German spy on a transatlantic crossing from England to the US on the Olympic.

This is a twist on the country house mystery with a diverse cast of characters that is contained to one place for the length of the voyage. The author does a good job of bringing the period setting to life, and the plot twists come at a fast clip.

I look forward to more in this series, and seeing where Jane and Redvers relationship develops.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
