Description

From School Library Journal Gr 9 Up-Desperate to buy time to hatch a plan to free Gild and release the spirits of the five children the Erlking stole, Serilda has agreed to marry the Erlking and allow him to claim the child she carries as his own. The Erlking and his terrifying Wild Hunt have captured many rare and dangerous creatures, and Serilda is in a race against time as her spelled and sleeping body and the baby within it grow by the day. She must find out not only what the Erlking plans to do, but also decide how much she's willing to sacrifice to save her five ghost children, Gild, her unborn child, and herself. Though the Erlking as a character persists in being difficult to grasp (Perchta did not seem to be enough motivation for his decisions at some points), the ambiguous, not-always-evil villain of the story adds an intriguing complication to Serilda's emotional turmoil. It takes a skilled storyteller to write convincingly in the voice of another storyteller, and Meyer is one of the best at this. Serilda's Grimm-flavored tales are woven through the narrative as the threads of the story come together for an immersive, satisfying conclusion. Excellent!!

Maybe the most engaging book series I read in years! The first book, the beginning of this riveting story gives its place to a book strong in character development and plot as the first. Meyer is a master in recreating classic fairytales and this is her best work so far. The books deconstruct the tale we all know and built new paths only to surprise with twists and turns until the pieces of the story fall back in place. A story filled with magic mystery and characters the one more fascinating than the other!
Cursed will satisfy your appetite for the proper conclusion to a powerful story and answer all the questions the first book creates in the most unpredictable yet fulfilling finale.

Terrific Gothic Fantasy for teens and adults

I really enjoyed this book. Yes it is darker than some of her other books, but I loved that. It is the equivalent of a PG-13 movie or TV-14 show. Well researched. Well written.

Is there such a thing as a high fantasy thriller…..

Is there such a thing as a high fantasy thriller….. if the answer is yes this concussion to Marissa Meyer’s Duology of the retelling of Rumplstilskin is it!!!! I was utterly intrigued by how she was going to weave the story of Rumplstilskin in this high fantasy world of gold and Serila …. Every time thought I figured out what she was going to do I was thrown just like the MC for a loop I never saw it ending like that …. I crown Marissa Meyers and the ultimate fairytale retelling queen. I cried I was overjoyed and I was truly mad that you left me with questions at the end but I think that shows how great of a storyteller she is…….. 5 stars for sure

Amazing story

I was so excited to get book 2, and I was not disappointed! I love this author already, but I really enjoyed this two book series.

It’s a very interesting twist on the Rumpelstiltskin story. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and was super surprised how well the author wrapped everything up.

Creative but Dragged

I feel like there was a word count that had to be reached. A lot of it could have been cut. Also, it seems that Marissa is, as the kids are calling it, "very woke."

Not much Serilda and Gild interaction

I loved this series. I liked having more of the Erlking in this and learning about him and seeing him and Serilda interact. Honestly though, there was more interaction between her and the king or even her and the children than there was between her and gild. I was so excited to see how their relationship was going to progress and see the little moments between them throughout the book but I was immensely disappointed at how little there was between the two. It would have made it SO much better. Sadly I was reading for the progression between serilda and gild but there was hardly any. Still a good book, but it didn’t quite live up to my expectations.

Loved It!!!

Cursed is the conclusion of Marissa Meyer’s Gilded series, a retelling of Rumpelstiltskin. I loved Gilded and could not wait for this conclusion. And Meyer did not disappoint. This book had everything. I loved all the characters and I love how Meyer brought them and the setting to life. I loved Serilda and Gild as much as the first book. Though I did miss the banter they had. As this story progressed it did take a dark turn. There were parts that I thought the pace was a bit slow. But by the end of the book I was flying through and did get a bit teary eyed.

Don’t want to say anything to spoil this book or the first one. So I will just say if you love fairytale retellings and have enjoyed Marissa Meyer’s other books the. I think you should definitely check out this series.

Would make any mother angry

SPOILER ALERT
Serilda does not have a true maternal instinct. If she did, she would have taken the opportunities that arose to save her child, not hold out for the kids in the book that are ALREADY dead!! Sure it sucks they're stuck in the castle, but her own child is alive and if it gets into the hands of the Huntress Serilda knows its only a matter of time before the child is abandoned or killed damn it!!
And guess what happened? Yep, the baby gets killed. Sure the father and child are brought back to life, but I do NOT appreciate reading about the murder of a newborn. This is the 2nd time a murder scene of an infant has shown up in Marissa's books. I think it is horribly violent and upsetting.
I am done with this woman's books.
