So good!!!!

Why did I wait so long to read this? Read it during an afternoon at the beach which was the absolute perfect place for it!

“What was so wonderful about being beautiful, if all it meant was being sent away from the people who loved you at best, and at worst, spending the rest of your life feeling inadequate.”

Nor is willing to be someone else for the rest of her life in order to protect her family. She is uprooted from her life living on the sea diving for pearls (which sounds like a dream) to be trapped in a mountain.

This book was so so so good. The characters are so well written. I loved that Nor was so fiercely herself and put those around her first. I can’t wait to read the next one and I literally can’t stop thinking about this book.

Love this book!

I adore this book! I read it and then purchased the sequel and DEVOURED them both in a day! I cannot recommend this duology enough. I will sing Mara Rutherford’s praises all day long. Her world building and descriptions are beautiful, and her characters are always so relatable and complex. I loved the relationship between the two sisters, Nor and Zadie. This is an exciting fantasy story that I recommend to all YA lovers!

Amazing!!! LOVED this book!

This was such a magical adventure of twin sisters, Nor and Zadie, who realize they want different paths in life. After an unfortunate incident the twins are forced to reverse roles to save their village over the sea, Nor steps in her place to go live in Ilara to be the Kings bride. Little does she know the horrors that await her, and that she’s being thrown head first into the adventure of a lifetime. This was fast paced, exciting and such a magical read! The characters are amusing, relatable and well crafted. The world building is exquisite, and I really want to live over the sea too!!

Thoughtful plot, anticipating next book

I thought the storyline was unique, but it was dificult to maintain my interest near the end of the story. I have yet to read the next book in the series but I am hopeful that it will answer some of the questions that arrived in the first book. It felt like something was supposed to happen but it never did. This could be a slow build on the authors part, but I would have liked some reveals in the secrets that exist in this story. Overall, this series has great potential and I am hopeful the next book will foster more interest in the story.
