response to Ellie Reasoner

I just wanted to respond to the review by Ellie Reasoner. You are right, to feel fear is human and normal and it will happen to every person many times in life. But to me it seems like the Pope was not telling us to not feel fear but rather to trust in God in the face of fear. You will feel fear in your life, but you don't have to give in to it and let it run or ruin your life. When you feel fear you can give it to Jesus and let him carry your burdens and help you through it, like the poem Footprints. This is the type of fear not I think the Pope was talking about.

A fabulous testimony to the philosophical insight into John Paul II

An immensely easy read considering the topic. The translation was perfect. A required read for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of the Roman Catholic Church.

Extremely Articulate and Well Read

I was thoroughly surprised by this book. It is formatted as a series of questions and answers and I cannot help but to admire the level of knowledge that he has in answering each of these questions. From quoting early christian philosophers to renaissance thinkers and finally tying everything together with messages from the Bible.

There were some funny bits like for example, when asked on Whether God Exists? He ended his rather expansive explanation with a recommendation to read St. Thomas' Summa Theologica :P

In Summary, it is a message of sharing and understanding with other religions as well as schisms within the church. Hard questions such as Why God allowed suffering was covered rather briefly and I must say somewhat predictably, but alas, alot of the predictable answers are the ones hardest to follow and execute.

What you might ask his reasons were? Well, go read the book!

An absolutely beautiful and interesting book

An absolutely beautiful and interesting book. For me, Pope John Paul, is one of clearest thinkers, one of the truest men of faith
in the last 50-100 years. Forget all your prejudicial thinking about conventional religion, and the Catholic church as an Institution
(with a capital "I"). This very simply is Pope John Paul explaining Christ to us. 'Intellectuals' will not understand it. Beautifully and carefully
worded to help us understand Jesus. The spirit of the book and it's message is unmistakable. I have read it over and over again, and find new meaning it each time. A small, easy to read bedside book, so worth looking into !
