Crochet The Golden Girls: Includes 10 Crochet Patterns and Materials to Make Sophia

I have been waiting on this for weeks. This was my favorite show as a kid and I even dressed up like Sophia for Halloween one year. I also have several kits like this from the same designer. Every other kit contains a separate book, yarn, notions, and a hook within a large box. This is what I was expecting.

I am so disappointed that I am literally crying. First off, the yarn is crap, but that's not a huge deal because I bought this mainly for the book. However, the stupid box is attached to the book! It's not stuck to the back with annoying glue boogers ; it's smack dab in the middle of this big hardback book. It's the stupidest thing I have ever seen. To make matters worse, the box is damaged and opened. The yarn is incomplete and this book will be garbage soon because there is an empty flimsy box in the middle. I hate this and I want a refund!

The book is attached to the box. Seriously, indecent you open it up and use the yarn and stuff, you're stuck with the box for the life of the book. It's a thick box too. This makes it hard to store later. It also increases the risk of damage to the book.

This is very disappointing. It wasn't cheap neither. I waited a long time and was excited when it finally came. Then...

I really just bought it for the book but the kit is built into the book... it has like a 2 inch binding for 10 patterns. I’ve never seen a kit made like this before.

*Update - After working the Rose pattern in the book there are 3 errors on the legs for Rows 5 and 25. Both of Rows 25 do not result in the final portion of the heel of the shoe and row 5 of the 2nd leg tells you to skip a large portion of the length of the leg. Leg 1 Row25= 6 stitches along the side (no heel). Leg 2 Row25= Heel ends up on the toe of the shoe. Row 5 second leg only gives you 4 rows of stitches when you need 264 rows. Even the reference picture shows two very different shoes so it is of no help to figuring it out. Also all the dolls have far too many separate pieces that later need to be stitched together including the soles of the shoes. This adds to much extra additional time and work. The head and body could have been 1 piece, legs and arms 4 pieces.

My book arrived yesterday and I don't have a single bad thing to say about the patterns themselves. However like everyone else has said, placing the box with the included supplies in the middle of the book was a horrible idea. The book is going to take up a lot of unnecessary space on a bookshelf once the materials are used up. The included yarn is not good quality. The peach yarn is stiff, crunchy and does not glide even a little bit. You will spend some time fighting it. It's ok for practicing with but I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Overall though the patterns are great and should be a lot of fun to create these iconic characters from such a loved show.

This is wonderful !! Fast to work up and all the materials you need to make Sofia !! I love her she’s so tiny !! I have many patterns from this designer she’s wonderful and Thorough !! Anyone from beginner experienced can make this !!! I promise you won’t be disappointed!!

I would not recommend this to anyone without extensive amigurumi experience. There are numerous errors in the instructions from wrong stitch counts, measurements that are off, and pictures that don’t jive with the instructions. The flesh colored yarn in the kit was horrible. The other yarn was fine. The wire included is very flimsy and hard to work with. I bought heavier gauge wire to make the rest of the girls. The book attached to the box is annoying. However, there are instructions online from the author on how to remove the box and turn it into a separate book. The figures are cute when finished and fun for the most part. But I made a few adjustments. I recommend this for experienced crocheters only.

I’m so sad I can’t write a more positive review of this because I was so excited to buy it. The packaging and materials are awful. You need to buy your own yarn to make something decent. The book doesn’t lay flat and it can’t be detached from the box. Epic fail with that. The patterns are great if you can figure out the errors. This whole thing seems like it was rushed to production. I would suggest folks wait to buy it until a second printing is done to fix the errors. And don’t waste your money on the kit - if it comes out in only a book form, you can save yourself a lot of frustration.

Update 2/2022: oh my! The errors in all the patterns are absolutely unacceptable. No way they had a technical editor read it or had the patterns tested by crocheters. Don’t buy this if you’re a beginner or if you can’t identify errors and adapt the patterns to fix things.

Love love love this kit! The book is actually attached, so that may or may not be to your liking. I can’t wait to get started!

Returning due to packaging. I am hoping it will be reissued as a book separate from packaging. I was excited about this item & the artist is great just don’t like having to keep something that takes up so much senseless room. Hoping patterns are sold separately.

This book is amazing! The patterns are easy to follow and dolls work up quick. The book also includes patterns for several iconic items from my favorite episodes. This is a great price for everything you get! It came with everything I needed to make Sophia and is a great way to find out which materials work best for me because I will be making more than one Sophia! And BONUS I’m using the box for storage of my beads and other things I’ll need specifically for these patterns. The book itself is well made and sturdy and will last me a long time. This book sits perfectly on my book stand while I work from it and also stores perfectly on my book shelf. Great buy!
