Features & Highlights

  • IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A QUIET DINNER PARTY WITH HER COLLEAGUES—
  • NOT THE SCENE OF A MURDER.
  • But the murder of a stranger on her front lawn is only the first in a string of events that have Dr. Shannon Frasier’s life teetering on the edge of chaos. She’s unable to make the deeper commitment her boyfriend deserves. Her sister shows up at her home needing a place to stay but with no promise she’ll remain sober. And her father is diagnosed with cancer.
  • Then Shannon’s life stops teetering and plunges into the abyss. Because the person behind the guttural voice on the phone wants to know what the stranger said before he died. And he won’t stop until Shannon gives him the information he wants—even if she doesn’t have it.
  • He’s coming for her. She’s not sure the police on the case can be trusted. And her only hope of escape—for herself and for those she loves—is to overcome her buried past.

Murder Mystery & Medical Drama Combined

I just finished the book. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Plenty of action, suspense, and excitement. Richard Mabry keeps you hanging through various twists and turns with several subplots going throughout. I can never take time to read straight through a book, but I struggled to find good stopping points when I was running out of reading time. I recommend Ricahrd Mabry's books to anyone who enjoys medical drama.

This was an awesome medical mystery

This was an awesome medical mystery!! I have never read anything by this author and I really enjoyed it.

Sisters, Shannon and Megan go through alot in this book not knowing who to trust and wondering what catastrophe is going to happen to them next. Shannon is a surgeon who keeps experiencing traumatic deaths and has a hard time trusting God and relationships. Megan is recovering from addictions and trying to get her life in order, but her past keeps coming back to haunt her.

I really enjoyed all the drama and mystery in this christian book. The ending was not predictable and the story line and characters kept my interest the entire story. I would highly recommend this book!

I was given a complimentary copy of this e-book for social media and blog review. All opinions are my own.

Book Review - Critical Condition by Richard Mabry

Most of what I read is material that I find useful for my life, from my work in ministry to fatherhood, and every topic in between. Every once in a while, though, I like to grab a good fiction novel and enjoy some lighter reading for a change.

Last week, I picked up a new novel by Richard Mabry, called Critical Condition. I managed to digest the entire book in just a couple of evenings, and enjoyed it.

I've read several other books by Mabry in the past, and thoroughly enjoyed each one of them. This one just didn't seem to be as good as the rest that I've read.

The premise of the story is based around Dr. Shannon Frasier. During a dinner party, a man is shot in her front yard, and dies in her arms. Add to that Dr. Frasier's younger sister moving in after a fight with her boyfriend, and with drug trouble a possibility, Dr. Frasier is suddenly overwhelmed.

That's when the questions and threats start coming. And they are coming from both the police and a mysterious caller. Dr. Frasier's life becomes a nightmare, and just staying alive seems an impossibility.

I found the story line to be a great idea. The details were well situated and the plot carried itself along very nicely. The biggest problem was in the character development. I had a hard time understanding several key aspects of each of the major characters. Several times, it felt like Mabry assumed that the reader knows something about one of the characters that hasn't been revealed yet. Dialog was forced, and occasionally the story would jump to conclusions that didn't fit.

I found that disappointing. I was expecting to enjoy this story like the others I've read. Sadly, that was not the case. Overall though, it wasn't a terrible novel. It felt as if Mabry were rushing to get Critical Condition finished before a deadline. A bit more effort would have turned this into another spectacular story.

Critical Condition...WOW! This book will keep you up at night!

If you like mystery, intrigue and suspense, look no further than Richard L. Mabry's newest book Critical Condition. I love it when I find a good writer who is new to me, because that means I'll be able to go back and read his earlier work.

Critical Condition is the first book that I've read by Richard L. Mabry M.D. and I wasn't disappointed. He skillfully draws the reader in to the storyline and reveals the characters, almost like pealing an onion, layer by layer you learn about the characters and what motivates them and what brought them to this place and how will it end.

Dr. Mabry brings a different twist to mystery novels. The story includes characters who are doctors and the reader gets to view the events through the different lens of medicine.

The story is fast paced and more than once kept me up late because I didn't want to put the book down. I can tell a good book when it leaves me thinking about the characters and try to figure out what will happen even when I'm not reading the book.

I especially appreciated how Dr. Mabry has interwoven faith into the storyline through the characters as they struggle with and grow in their faith. Faith seemed to be a natural part of the characters, not just something thrown in because this a book by a Christian author. I appreciate a writer who doesn't have to turn to immorality to tell a good story

I give a big thumbs up to Critical Condition by Richard L. Mabry M.D. I look forward to reading more novels by this writer.

I would like to thank the people at BookLook for giving me a copy of Critical Condition to read and review. I was under no obligation to give a favorable review.

Medical Suspence by Richard Mabry

My first book that I read of Richard Mabry's was Code Blue that I borrowed from a friend. Right away I was drawn into the suspence. Critical Condition was no different. The suspence kept me turning the pages from the start. Richard Mabry clearly is an expert on this subject because he is a retired physician and this comes out in his writing. I highly recommend this book to lover's of medical suspence.
