Description

"A captivating story of hope and redemption."--Margaret Feinberg , author of Fight Back With Joy Candice Curry didn't have a normal childhood. Normal is hard to come by when you are awakened in the night by your father--who is high on drugs--for a wild ride down the highway. Or when your father has a habit of "borrowing" things and never returning them. Or when imposing strangers show up at the door trying to track him down. While her father found himself on the wrong side of the law, her mother put herself through nursing school and kept food on the table by working around the clock, which left Candice in the hands of a father who needed babysitting himself. Through her struggles and brokenness, Candice finds freedom in forgiveness and love in the midst of tragedy. Join her on the winding road to discover the truth that God doesn't love us because we're perfect--but because he is."I had no intention to sit down and read this book cover to cover in one sitting, but Candice drew me into her story from the opening chapter."-- Melanie Shankle , New York Times bestselling author of Nobody's Cuter Than You "This is a must-read! I couldn't put it down! Hope, help, and healing are in these pages."-- Ken Freeman , author, evangelist, and motivational speaker Candice Curry is the daughter of a con man and convicted criminal. She started a blog as a form of therapy, which has grown into a worldwide ministry and landed her on TODAY and Good Morning America . A speaker and a contributor to The Huffington Post , Today.com, and several other sites, Candice has a passion to give hope to those suffering the pain of rejection, the burden of unforgiveness, and the emptiness of great loss. Candice and her husband, Brandon, have five children and recently welcomed her teenaged sister into their home. They live in Texas. Candice Curry spent years working in sales doing what she felt she had to instead of what she wanted to. Then she put her faith in God and gave it all up to share her story through writing. Features & Highlights

  • When Candice Curry was a little girl, she put her hand in her father's back pocket so that she wouldn't get lost in large crowds. Little did she know that as she followed him, he was plying his trade: conning people. Her family drove stolen cars, lived in stolen houses, and shopped with stolen credit cards. Drug use was regular, as were visits from strange people who were trying to track her father down. Though she eventually cut ties with her father, Candice could not ignore the scars that were left from her childhood. This is her story, one steeped in secrets but one that, ultimately, led her to a place of forgiveness and freedom. As she struggles to understand her criminal father, as well as her own imperfect life, Candice comes to realize that we are not defined by our circumstances but rather by how we react to those circumstances. She's found peace in the knowledge that God doesn't love us because we're perfect--but because
  • he
  • is.

Beautiful read

I was in the same graduating class as Candice's brother. After reading this miraculous book, I can only say that I wish I could go back and hug them both. This book, whether you know them or not, will make you consider what it means to be truly saved. Just beautiful.

Once you start reading it, you won't want to put it down!

I read this story in two sittings. Seriously, once you start reading it, you don't want to put it down! Forget what you need to be getting done.... You won't want to stop reading! The Con Man's Daughter by Candice Curry is easy to read, much like a conversation with an old friend. Some parts were a little difficult to digest--just because I can empathize with this girl. You don't want bad things to happen, but that is life, and Candice shares, the good, bad, and the ugly and shows how God redeems it. I admire how brave the girls is in the story and what a strong, courageous women she has turned out to be. Go, read, and be moved!

A story of redemption

You won't want to put this book down and when you finish, you'll want to read it again!
You will ask yourself, how can anyone survive this type of childhood! The lies, deceit, abandonment, selfishness and manipulation of this "father" towards his family are appalling but Candace desperately seeks his love for most of her formative years. On the outside, Candace is a happy, bubbly high school cheerleader and others must have thought she had it all but the painful secrets she kept close tell a different story. She finally finds the love of her Father in Heaven and is able to put the pieces together. A very heartfelt book that is a must read on so many levels! (less)

A Story of Love and Redemption

This book touched me in so many ways. What a beautiful testimony to God's redeeming power. This amazing author has shared, with heart rending transparency, the anguish of her childhood and the healing power of God's love. Children who are traumatized in youth go one of two ways. In Candicie's case, she has allowed the love of God to make her a radiant Christian and a phenomenal mom. Her ability to forgive those who hurt her has transformed her life and she has been gracious enough to share that with her readers. Did I mention I was one of her teachers? I'm so proud of her.
