Complete Asian Cookbook

This is a big, thick volume of recipes covering India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Burma, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, The Philippines, China, Korea, and Japan. Obviously the coverage can not be complete for so many regions in one book, no matter how large, but the essence of each is presented. For each region there is a list of utensils and ingredients required to replicate the cuisine. There are one or two full-page color photographs for each cuisine, displaying a typical dinner for the region, as well as descriptions of how the meals are served. The book fulfilled my expectations completely.

Overall, a really lovely cookbook with recipes from many Asian countries. If you are a cookbook collector or enjoy trying new cuisines, this is a great choice. Americans, be aware that there are some metric measures and British terminology. I tried a few of the Indian recipes exactly as written and they were quite good, although more salty and with less heat than I expected. The instructions are clear and the book is of excellent quality with stay-open binding. I recommend it for adventurous cooks with some experience in the kitchen.

This is the third copy of this book we have purchased because it gets used so much it eventually falls apart. We retire that copy to the holiday house or the like. It covers almost all Asian cuisines and faithfully reproduces the flavours and aromas that we all love and experience on our travels.
It lists all the ingredients that are required to make each dish at the beginning of each country/region that is covered. Follow the recipes faithfully and you will not be disappointed.

It is a CLASSIC.

Book has inaccurate recipes, made up Asian recipes, incorrect recipe names. Should be called the complete book of made up Asian recipes.

If you are interested in learning more about authentic Asian cuisine, this is not the book for you.

I promise this book is the only Asian cookbook you'll ever need. I have been struggling to find a good set of "ethnic" recipes that are simple enough to follow, and yet don't compromise on authenticity. My mother owns the original 1970s version of this book, and now that I'm living on my own I picked up a copy for myself after acquiring several other Asian cookbooks that did not deliver to my expectations - I have found this to be the only book that delivers such great recipes that every single one I have tried so far has turned out well, and the book encompasses so many different Asian cuisines. The book is well laid out, easy to follow, and the photos are very helpful.

I also have a older edition of this venerable cookbook, which I prefer. Regardless, this new version, which I bought because I thought I misplaced my older version (but found a week later! lol) is just as amazing and useful. Having grown up in Southeast Asia, this cookbook and its recipes serve as a culinary portal into past memories and present and future great cooking. Rock solid content. It is also (my) "Mom-approved," and one can't go wrong with that!

I gave this as a gift to a colleague who loves to prepare Asian food. He raved about this book and was thrilled to receive it as a gift from me!!!!

I am quickly referencing this book for any Indian, Thai, Japanese, or other Asian cuisine. This is a great book for any library of cookbooks.

My husband bought this cookbook for me shortly after we got married 18 years ago. I was a good cook before, but this book taught me about ingredients and cooking techniques that were completely new to me, and it transformed my cooking repertoire to be one that is almost completely international. I still cook recipes from this book several times a month.
