One of the most complete Christian Counseling Manuals Around

This book has everything a Christian Counselor would want to know and need to learn in counseling clients with a blend of biblical principles and psychological training. It is an outstanding book, incorporating years of experiences and practical studies with methodology that has been proven by both the American Psychological Association and the American Association of Christian Counselors to benefit the client and counselor. I highly recommend Christian Counseling - 3rd Edition to anyone who is considering becoming a counselor as part of a church lay counseling ministry or a professional clinician working with those who deal with Christian/spiritual issues. It is a must read! Well worth the time and investment.

Fantastic reference for all in pastoral care.

This tome is filled with everything imaginable when it comes to helping people with their problems; and it comes from a Christian perspective. It doesn't have remedies such as "pray away the gay" or "just have faith." Rather, it educates the reader on the type and scope of mental illness and other conditions (domestic violence, homosexuality, drug abuse) and gives practical advice on how to counsel people with these problems. Highly recommended.

Important contribution

Dr. Collin's books have became indispensable for counselors, not only in the US, but around the world, as is my situation. There are not good reliable books edited in Spanish, and the ones we have are mostly from Jay Adams. I am sorry to hear that his works are compared to Dr.Collin's writings. In fact are two different things. Chrsitan Counseling help many people to understand their own issues, as well as, other people's issues. The problem with Jay Adams is that he's lost in an ontological labyrinth.

A Definite "Must Read"

I am a professor of pastoral counseling and read this book some time ago. I deeply appreciate Dr. Collins' balanced approach to Christian counseling amid so many non-evidence based trends within the field. I have assigned it in a graduate course in psychotherapy that I teach, and the students always vote it as one of the most helpful books they read for the term. If you are in the field, please read it. If you are seeking a Christian counselor, definitely read it. Another very short and readable book you may find helpful is Counseling Christians for Mental, Emotional, Behavioral, and Spiritual Health.

Lots to Read, but Good Read

lots to read but gets straight to the point in a great perspective, not just Christian views but overall reasons why people feel that particular way pertaining to that specific topic.

Voraciously thick

This volume scares and thrills the buyer. I didn't know I bought such a thick book initially as it was mail order. The words are packed very tightly, making the reading a tad difficult. The issues covered are extensive and with many theories covered as well. I have not finished the book but it is meant more like a reference than a chronological page turner. Definitely a must-own on every counselors' shelf!
