Description

Review “[Karl Lagerfeld] lives out his own legend in every way he can think of, with every instinct he has, and in a world of stolid conventions, he has the courage to perpetuate a vision of something wonderful.”—Andrew O’Hagan, T: The New York Times Style Magazine “Lagerfeld has maintained his preëminence for five decades, and without any visible sign of strain.”—John Colapinto, New Yorker “Because fashion is about today. You can take an idea from the past, but, if you do it the way it was, no one wants it.”—Karl Lagerfeld About the Author Patrick Mauriès is a writer and publisher of many notable titles on fashion and design. Adélia Sabatini is commissioning editor for fashion at Thames & Hudson.

You’ll have this book forever

This is a wonderful book, something I will keep and refer to again and again. It covers all the Karl Lagerfeld collections. My only gripe is, I wish there were more photos of each collection!
**there is a Dior book in the same Catwalk series that you all should check out. The early shows were held in the salon, and along with photos of the collection, you also got good glimpses of the audience, including various movie stars, princess margaret…
*Note, When you buy the Chanel book, make sure you are buying the updated version which goes to 2021. There is an earlier version which only goes to 2016.

Disappointing

This book is a great starting point for anybody interested in Chanel- but that's all it's good for. The same can also be said with all the Catwalk books, which all average 3 pages per runway season, with an average of 5 images per page. Just like the others in the series, it suffers by giving newer seasons more pages instead of focusing on the harder-to-find older runways.

I struggle to understand why Yale keeps giving some older seasons ONE page while heavily covered, easily accessible runways that happened less than a decade ago get three to five pages. I'll still buy these books when they're on sale, but they are not an exciting experience to open- I already know that the seasons I'm excited to finally see after years of research and searching will barely get any attention while the ones you can find on Vogue right now are given the limelight.

Quality

Looks great as decor plus just love looking through it. Such good quality, so sturdy and you can tell they took time making this piece. Plus it’s so thick, wasn’t expecting that! So worth the price! Can’t find better quality for such a good price.
