“Feline fans will enjoy reading “The Cat, the Devil, and Lee Fontana” and will await the next incarnation of this heavenly cat.” — IronMountain Daily News To the devil, the span of a human life is as brief as spit on the wind. But the challenge of playing with flawed humans, like a cat toying with a mouse, is endlessly amusing. If the devil loses a wager, though, he will harass a person's descendants until he eventually gets his due. Which is why he's tormenting Lee Fontana. The night before Lee, a train robber, is paroled from jail, Satan terrifies and tempts the thief with the promise of one more successful heist. Struggling to live an honest life working on a farm in Southern California with old friends, opportunities to get rich quick seem to appear at every turn and the temptation becomes too much to bear. But Lee has a secret ally looking out for him. The prison cat Misto, a yellow-tabby ghost, will tail the ex-con on his dangerous missionx97an adventure that will leave a long legacy for everyone's favorite sleuthing cat, Joe Grey, and his pals in the charming California coastal town of Molina Point. In addition to her popular Joe Grey mystery series for adults, which have received eleven national Cat Writers' Association Awards for the best novel of the year, Shirley Rousseau Murphy has written many children's and young adult books, for which she has received five Council of Authors and Journalists Awards. Pat spent his career as a US federal Probation Officer in California and in Oregon, as the Chief US Probation Officer in Panama, and as Chief US Probation Officer for the Northern District of Georgia. After he retired the Murphys returned to their home in California, settling on the Central California coast with a view of the hills and the sea. Read more

I'd give this negative stars if I could

I am a huge fan of the Joe Grey series; I have read and own every book. But The Cat. I read the Catswold Portal, and enjoyed the fantasy world more than this. The Devil and Lee Fontana - very depressing, and I have never read such a B-O-R-I-N-G book in my life. Yet I kept reading, hoping that on the next page there might be something relating to a plot, or some story line. There was neither, just paragraph after paragraph of totally useless and irrelevant detailed descriptions of scenery and other on and on drivel of nonsense, nothing relating to any story. I thought the train ride out of prison would never end, utter boredom. Speaking of endings, what a supreme disappointment!!!! I can only hope that the torture I put myself through reading this book will be worth it, and that it will be a small background to an upcoming book by Shirley R-M. Believe me, I will not waste another cent on a book that has her husband’s name on it. What had any relevancy to her past books at all could have been written in 3 chapters and added to the book it relates to. Such a waste of the paper used to print this book. I would never buy a sequel to this one.

Was sorry I bought this!

My mom and I are avid readers of the Joe Grey series. We've each read every mystery three times. I bought this for her and was VERY disappointed when I started reading it. I'm still reading it since I can't get interested in it. It seems to drone on and on about the characters, all but Misto. I have to put it down and read something else. It's more about Lee Fontana than the cat, Misto. I bought it to read about Misto. I sincerely hope the next book Ms Murphy writes will be a Joe Grey mystery not another Misto adventure.

Usual fare from this author

There is something wrong with me. I keep buying Murphy's cat books and enjoy them but end up feeling somewhat disappointed. It would be such a help if she would add some humor in her stories. I keep buying them, hoping.....
