Description

Listeners, be advised: Once you push "PLAY" on this second Nick Heller thriller, pushing "STOP" will be extremely difficult...From the opening paragraphs, Holter Graham's cool, acerbic performance personifies the sardonic Heller, 'private spy.' Graham's convincing delivery expands to include characters as varied as a terrified teen heiress, a pompous senator, and a gold-digging call girl. A highlight is his portrayal of a Russian psychopath. As the action intensifies, Graham's mastery of pacing becomes evident as he moves the listener along briskly without sounding rushed. One certainly hopes to hear more Heller adventures from Finder and Graham. ( AudioFile Magazine )Holter Graham is a prolific, professional, and extremely reliable narrator of audio books…His Nick is smart, cagey, but too impulsive. Graham has a knack from capturing each voice from Alexa's querulous teen notes to Marshall's sorrowful and manipulative pleas. Together, Finder and Graham have created a thoroughly engaging summer listen. ( Reviewing the Evidence )Holter Graham's outstanding narration enhanced the characterizations and added depth to the author's work, while making each speak (both male and female) distinct and immediately identifiable. I highly recommend listening to this one! ( Book Loons )The novel is as tension-packed and tricky as any Finder fan might expect and Graham's pacing perfectly mirrors its increasing suspense as time and Alexa's air supply start to run out. This is one of those parked car audiobooks, the kind that keep you sitting in the driveway with the engine running just to hear what happens next. ( Mystery Scene )

  • Nick has returned to his old home town of Boston to set up his own shop. There he's urgently summoned by an old family friend. Hedge fund titan Marshall Marcus desperately needs Nick's help. His teenaged daughter, Alexa, has just been kidnapped. Her abduction was clearly a sophisticated professional job, done with extraordinary precision. Alexa, whom Nick has known since she was young, is now buried alive, held prisoner in an underground crypt, a camera trained on her, her suffering streaming live over the internet. She's been left with a limited supply of food and water and, if her father doesn't meet the demands of her shadowy kidnappers, she'll die. And as Nick begins to probe, he discovers that all is not quite right with Marshall Marcus's business. He's being investigated by the FBI, he has a lot of shady investors, his fund is in danger and now he has a lot of powerful enemies who may have the motivation to go after Marcus's daughter. But to find out who's holding Alexa Marcus hostage, Nick has to find out why. Once he does, he uncovers an astonishing conspiracy that reaches far beyond anything he could have imagined. And if he's going to find Alexa in time, he will have to flush out and confront some of his deadliest opponents ever.

A Really Wild Ride of a Story!

Oh, my goodness! Strap yourself into a chair before you start reading this book; it moves at break-neck pace and speaks to a fear in all of us – being buried alive. I suffered from a severe case of claustrophobia just listening to the story.

I cannot remember the last time I was so frightened by a story (I know better than to read horror books; I’m too squeamish). This book is not for the faint-of-heart; a seventeen year-old girl is used as a pawn in a high-powered conflict between an American billionaire and some of the most notorious loan sharks around the world.

No one seems to be who they say they are; few are honest – and the clock is ticking. A young woman’s life hangs in the balance and still people are lying. Nick Heller is fascinating and his friends are just as interesting.

I’ve read several of the Jack Reacher novels and Nick Heller leaves him in the dust. I feel Nick Heller is more realistic because he gets help from friends and co-workers; Jack Reacher does everything himself. Heller is a ‘private spy’ which seems like a new genre to me; Heller was a Black Ops agent who now has his own business.

The person who read this book (Holter Graham) added so much to the story; his Russian was amazing. Graham changed into several voices; this helped the listener follow the quick plot turns and the large number of characters in this book.

Started off a little confusing

I have gotten into many FInder books and they are all written in holding true to life form. Good, disturbing and twisty

Great audiobook!

I like this new book by Finder. It's different from his usual corporate thrillers, and a bit creepy. An excellent fast read. I listened to it while doing crafts, and ended up sitting there for 8 hours solid because I didn't want the story to stop.

Love this series...

Not only do we get a great story with mystery, intrigue, and suspense, but we also get a great main character in Nick Heller. This installment finds Nick helping out an old friend when his daughter is kidnapped and buried alive. Mr. Finder does an excellant job of keeping the reader/listener on the edge of their seat. I look forward to the next in this series and can only hope Mr. Finder writes fast.
