Delightful from beginning to end

As a parent, this may very well be my favorite bedtime story. Don't judge the book based on the TV show-- it is much better! Max and Ruby are making birthday cakes for Grandma. Max is making an earthworm cake but Ruby wants to make an angel surprise cake with rasbery fluff frosting. Despite Ruby's increasingly restrictive instructions, Max keeps knocking her ingredients off the table, and Ruby keeps sending him to the store with a shopping list for replacements. Max wants red hot marshmellow squirters to top off his cake, and his attempts to communicate this to the grocer make up the heart of the story.

The illustrations are delightful and are cleverly incorporated as part of the story. My 3 year old loves this book, and believe it or not he gets tired of it before I do!

another good Max and Ruby Book

I think this is one of the better Max and Ruby books, along with Bunny Money and Bunny Party and Max Cleans Up.

Favorite Max and Ruby

My children are Max and Ruby(practically) and this is our favorite. A friend's daughter even demanded a Max cake for her birthday complete with gummy worms. This is a favorite of my 3 &5 year old.

Bunny Cakes by Rosemary Wells

Bam! The flour spills on the floor. This is what Max does in Bunny Cakes by Rosemary Wells. Read this book to find out how Ruby reacts when he spills everything, and how Max reacts when he spills the ingredients.
I like how Max wanted his red hot marshmallow squirters for his earthworm cake with caterpillar icing. Ruby did not want Max to spill any more things so she could finish her cake without having to send Max to the grocer again. While he was walking to the grocer he wrote red hot marshmallow squirters on the list in his best handwriting. Then finally he got his squirters, and he and Ruby finished their cake. When they got to grandma’s house, grandma was so thrilled that she did not know which cake to eat first.
I liked how the illustrator made such good pictures, and I really liked that the illustrator had so much detail in all the pictures that she made. For example, I like the picture of Max tipping over the jar of flour.
I also liked the ending because Grandma didn’t say Max’s cake was gross at all, but I wouldn’t want to eat it.
Go out and buy this book.

Fun & Instructive!!

We all LOVE this book! the appealing bossy older sibling element and irritating little brother element are both pushed to the limit! Then there is the sub-story of emerging literacy as Max explores written communication. Ruby's "No Max" sign gives him the cue to try his hand at images instead of formal writing.
It's great fun and awesome teaching & learning!
