Description

From Booklist After helping her team bring down Todd Thames, a serial killer in the Adirondacks, FBI agent Paige Carson was ready for a change. So she moved to South Carolina with her younger sister and began work at a new local bureau with a handsome new boss, Sam McKade. But running away from the past isn't always easy, even when a new romance blooms with the head of the office. Thames has been keeping tabs on her, sending postcards in the mail, reminding her she's still on his mind. And when she hears of his sudden release from prison, Paige fears for the worst for good reason. A local woman, a senator's sister, is found dead with a postcard by the body, and Paige knows Thames is closer than ever. He's hunting her down, and it's up to Paige, with Sam's help, to get to him before he gets to her. Mixing suspenseful twists and turns and budding romance, Fenech ( His Touch , 2015) takes the reader on a wild ride that will thrill excitement-seekers and love-story addicts alike. —Carissa Chesanek, Copyright 2016 “The constant suspense and sizzling sex keep the pages turning.” ― Publishers Weekly “From the first sentence I was hooked and I couldn’t stop reading until I got to the end...This is a book I highly recommend for those who love a good thriller.” ― Night Owl Reviews (4 1/2 Stars) Top Pick “I think that those who are in the mood for an exciting and hair-raising tale will enjoy this story and I hope to see more about these characters in the future.” ― The Reading Addict (4.5 Stars) Karen Fenech is the USA Today bestselling author of the romantic suspense Protectors Series and the erotic romance Surrender Series. Flat, one-dimensional characters and one of the most egregious incidents of insta-love I've read in a while. Even the suspense was not very suspenseful.

Needless melodrama was inserted into the story by not having Paige tell Ivy the truth about Thames and his fixation on her, leading to pointless misunderstandings and mis-communication between the sisters. And personally, that's one of my biggest pet peeves: when one character deliberately withholds crucial information from another that has a clear, detrimental impact on the one who is left in the dark. In novels and in real-life, that has only ever shown to be the wrong thing to do, but novelists find it a cheap and easy way to add “drama” to their story.

There were only two things I can praise about “Breath of Malice”. One, I felt it was quite original that the villain used medieval torture devices on his victims. And two, ultimately it was Paige who rescued herself rather than the big, brawny macho man hero of the book. So, kudos to Karen Fenech on these two points, but otherwise, this book is one to miss.

Suspenseful & Highly Entertaining! Really Enjoyable Read!

Suspenseful, highly entertaining, and disturbingly creepy!

This story takes us on a hunt for a serial killer, a highly intelligent serial killer, with a fascination for medieval torture, and an obsession for a specific FBI agent.

The characterization is well done. The main character, Paige, is tenacious, brave, and likeable, and her counterpart, Sam, is strong, relentless, and handsome. The plot builds and flows nicely from start to finish. And the storyline is interesting, action-packed, and a little steamy.

This is a really easy, exciting, enjoyable read that would be perfect for fans of Karen Robards or Mary Burton.

Suspense, Second Chance Romance and a Serial Killer

Breath of Malice by Karen French is about FBI agents and looking for a serial killer that has an obsession with one of the FBI agents. It is well written, suspenseful and has plenty of action. It is also a story of second chance romance. It is a little steamy and darker than my normal read. IF you like suspenseful, thriller with a romance and steamy thrown in , pick this up.

Another Solid Story

Another well hit for Mrs. Fenech. In her latest novel we follow the journey of young FBI agent Paige Carson. After a run in with a serial killer Paige and her sister try to keep a low profile by moving across the country, but Paige soon realizes that she can't stay hidden for long. Paige and her sister end up in South Carolina where she joins FBI Special Agent Sam McKade's team. Things seem to go well for Paige as she settles into her new life until she finds another post cards from serial killer Thames.

This book was well written, moved at a good pace and kept my interest. The only issue I had was with Paige and her fear of the serial killer. I understand being afraid of a serial killer but Paige seems to almost shut down after finding the BLANK post cards. No obvious threats or warnings just blank post cards. I guess I just feel like as an FBI agent she would be a little tougher.

Let me say that my issue with Paige in no way detracts from the story. I would easily recommend this book to anyone and can't wait to see what Mrs. Fenech comes up with next.
