There are better books.

If you are an operations firefighter, there are other books that address building construction and the hazards related. This book is hard to follow, contains incomplete thoughts and editing errors. It may be more applicable to those involved in plans review and /or inspections.

So many reasons

Apart from just being poorly organized, this book (which is sold as a text book) is filed with opinions. Frequently the consensus standards are referenced, which is then followed by "it's the author's opinion that" which is all well and good if there was any type of science or research to back up the author's clearly stated opinion. I don't say this to question the author's expertise in the subject matter, more so to bring to light what you can expect while reading this text. I would call the publisher and editor out for doing a poor job just a much as the author is to blame.

The content is present though, if you can decipher fact from opinion and sift through ALL the fluff.

If not for being a promotion exam required text I would have put the text away shortly after the first chapter.

Terrible read

One of the worst written books out there. The book reminds me of high school when we had a required length to write so after a couple paragraphs you began to ramble and repeat yourself until you met the number of words/pages required.
