Referring to the abridged audiobook - Not Very Good

This is my first True Crime book ever and an audiobook at that, but I was very disappointed by the experience and if I hadn't been trapped in the car with the choice of listening to PBS interview some flute player from blabistan or these tapes I would never have made it through.

First of all, the writing is pretty sad.

"Deborah is a vivacious funny woman with a great sense of humor,

but she was prone to fits of rage, but she was a good mother, but she used the kids as a wedge against mike, but she was an alcoholic, but they both stuck together never really knowing why they got married in the first place....." Seriously, it goes on like that for pages and pages.

Second, the lady reading the book, I forget her name, is a bit of a stuffed shirt, sort of like the lady interviewer on PBS radio and the one really funny moment in the book is :

"Deborah was an articulate speaker who was always the life of the party, but she was an introvert prone to fits of rage where she would use profanity such as A-hole and F-hole" when the narrator had to swear it clearly was uncomfortable for her and the result was so funny I laughed so hard I had to rewind.

Anyway, it pretty much fell on its face and the worst part of it all, is we never find out what really happened for sure because its a true story and nobody knows the answer.

Excellent case study of an dysfunctional American familyy

I believe that Ann Rule handled this case of an american dysfunctional family tragedy--matricide-- with extreme caution and gave us the reader -"just the facts ma'm." Of all the psychopaths and homicides I have read by Ms. Rule I found the story of the Green family absolutely the most tragic and preventable. The warning signs of the main female character's psychosis were evident early on in her marriage to Dr. Green. All the warning signs were out there blinking bright red and their children were sending out red flags for help, but nothing was done. The tragedy is that both parents should and do share in the quilt, both of them were professionls, well-educated and saddly in deep denial about their problems. Of all homicides that happen, so many are family conflicts that escalate out of control, because no body wants to take a look at themselves. It is easy toss blame back and forth. Drs' Green are people that I personally want to read the riot act too. I want to say wake up folks and take a look at yourselves. Stop running away, which is what each of the good doctors did. Read this commentary and weep folks, weep for the kids that were killed and weep for yourself, because this type of tragedy is quite common.
