This review is about the printing, not the book "Big Hair, Don't Care"--which is a very cute book.

I often buy books like this and just hand them to my daughter to read. I am SO GLAD I didn't this time. In the middle of this book, an entire different book is printed. It's called "Mommy and Daddy want to F...." It is HORRIBLE. It explains exactly how to have intercourse in a disturbing rhymey fashion. It references pedophilia. It uses every disgusting analogy or phrase you can think of or hopefully have never heard of. This is NOT a children's book, even though it has illustrations and it rhymes.

This awful misprint is not the author's fault. I feel bad leaving a 1 star review, I just don't know how else I can let people know. If you buy this book, beware---look through it before you hand it off to your kids!

UPDATE: We were contacted by both Amazon and the Author of this book. Both were very apologetic, supportive, and kind. Amazon requested the book back, and they did a full investigation as to how this happened. They determined it was a single instance misprint, and verified that there were no other misprints. They sent me a correct copy right away. While I wouldn't expect this ever to happen again with this book, my advice is to always scan through (or even better, READ) the books you get for your children before you give them to your children.

Don't Care!

I now have a little girl running around my house yelling "Big hair! Don't care!" Which is also her reply now when other kids make fun of her curly hair. The book worked great for her self esteem and self worth.

Great book for young kids

I was chosen by my daughter's birth mother to be her mom, but I know that with straight dirty blond hair I can't model how to love having big hair. My daughter is 3 and we read this book almost every night, she tells me which style she wants next and I do my best to oblige. :)

As it turns out my son also has pretty big hair so he loves it too.

There are no words for how much I appreciate this book. My daughter has already experience someone telling her that her hair was ugly because it was not straight. She is only 4. She was crying to me telling me she wanted her hair like one of her friends because her "friend" said my daughter's hair was ugly because it was all over the place (it was in a ponytail/afro puff that day) I was upset because it makes me wonder what the girl's parents are teaching her at home. I always teach my daughter to love herself from the top of her afro to the soles of her feet, and this book helps me enforce that.

Great book 👍

This book did the job. My daughter who is four came home from school and told me she doesn't like her hair and wished it was straight and long. I tried to explain to her that her hair is beautiful. She would demand that I put her hair in Elsa or Anna hairstyle and I would try to explain that her hair is different. As a solution I decided to get this book to help her understand that her hair is unique and beautiful. OMG I can't believe it worked. She immediately feel in love with the book and as a result appreciated her hair more. Every night we would read the book and she even carried it to school a few times. She has memorised the book now that she "reads" the book to me. Thank you Crystal

LOVE LOVE LOVE

Bought this for my niece who is biracial and being raised around mostly white people. She can be sensitive about being "different" and asks to have her her straightened sometimes. Her mom says they read this book almost every day (and she used to hate being read to). She loves it. It had really helped her embrace her hair. She's the cutest girl ever, so I'm happy she is seeing that now too.

A great book

My 7 y/o daughter enjoyed this book. As a dad, I believe it's important for my children go read a variate of books. However, it excites me to see books my daughter can relate to. In addition, the books focus is on a young girls natural beautiful hair. My daughter is typically the only child with her beautiful hair and has asked about the difference between straight hair and hers. We often express how we love her hair, but understanding child development the more it can be reinforce the greater the self-esteem. Not what you would think buyer beware!!!

I had such high hopes for this book. I thought it would be to reinforce a child liking what they were born with but unfortunately this missed the Mark.
So the book literally has one or two 5 word sentences on some pages, one word on others, and 4 sentences on others with absolutely no punctuation. Also she uses the same pictures throughout the book. It’s about 13 pages “long” very short and absolutely NOT what I thought it would be. I actually will be returning this book due to the lack of imagery and thoughtfulness. My child is reading a d she’s bored with it. Also my daughter pointed out that the illustrator wrote her/his name on each page! I don’t want to take too many photos because I don’t want to give it away. But you get the gist of it.

Yes, yes, yes!

I purchased this book for my daughter. She read it immediately and we have read it together a few times. It has quickly become a favorite! As a young girl of color, she desperately needed a book like this and I have heard her make comments about how she "loves her hair" and that she has a book about "just my hair." I am so glad I bought this for her.
