Description

While attending college at Nihon University, in 1988, Kentaro Miura debuted a 48-page manga known as Berserk Prototype , an introduction to the current Berserk fantasy world. It went on to win Miura a prize from the Comi Manga School. In 1989, after receiving a doctorate degree, Kentarou started a project titled King of Wolves based on a script by Buronson, writer of Hokuto no Ken ( Fist Of The North Star ).In 1990, the first volume Berserk was released with a relatively limited success. Miura again collaborated with Buronson on manga entitled Japan . Miura's fame grew after Berserk began "The Golden Age" story arc and the huge success of this masterpiece made of him one of the most prominent contemporary manga artists. In 1997, Miura supervised the production of 25 anime episodes of Berserk that aired in the same year on NTV. The series has also spawned a whole host of merchandise, both official and fan made, ranging from statues and action figures, to key rings, video games, and a trading card game. In 2002, Kentaro Miura received the second place in the Tezuka Osamu ( Astro Boy ) Cultural Prize of Excellence for Berserk . The author lives in Tokyo, Japan.

Features & Highlights

  • Guts, the Black Swordsman, and his companions have finally arrived at the sea, where they discover a mysterious child who seems to share a special bond with Guts and his former lover, the now-mad Casca. The troupe's brief respite at the shore offers moments for quiet introspection and deeper bonding, but such peace is always short lived where Guts is involved, and Guts must once again don the demonic Berserker Armor to take on a force of bloodthirsty beasts emerging from the once-peaceful surf, possessed by the accursed sorcery of a powerful Kushan enchanter! And who knows what will happen when internal strife pushes a member of Guts's band unknowingly into the comforting companionship of an enemy!

Dynamic and Bold.

Personally the I think the best measure of any story is how the characters change over time. If a character will act the same on page one of a series as he will on page six hundred then there is an issue. This series does not have that issue, far from it, every characters grows leaps and bounds every novel. There is always something new in this series. Nothing every seems over done or tired. This series is deeply human and full of LIFE.

gorefest volume 28

Captain St. Roidarms (think about it for a second) is back for more in this continuation of Kentaro Miura's epic. When Demons and monsters are sent to attack the branded mass of muscle and anger known as Guts, the main man once again steps up to the plate. Isidro is quite the vicious little mini-warrior in this book also. keep an eye on him.

the setting changes toward the end, and expect more of the breathtaking medieval artwork that characterized miura's earlier volumes. if you have made it to volume 28, you know how great Berserk is. Dive on in and continue the fantasy that does not disappoint.

A powerful volume of BERSERK!

Underneath the full moon, Guts and his party have a moment of peace. Gazing at the dark sea, Guts reflects on what has happened and learns what the future may hold when the Knight of Skeleton appears. In Elfheim, Guts learns, he might find more than a safe place for Casca to live, but a cure for her broken mind.

While Guts speaks with the Knight of Skeleton, Casca finds happiness when she discovers a young boy with long, black hair. Her maternal instincts are awakened, reminded of her own child perverted in her womb by Griffith's demonic seed and birthed as a deformed creature. But who is this child? Where did he come from?

Before these questions are asked, Guts and his party are attacked by the demon-possessed animals of the Kushan Empire. Caught up in their preparations to invade the port city of Vittrinnias, Guts will have to fight again. It's been a month since he last used the berserker armor and he is still recovering.

To survive, he will have to gamble his life, and those of his companions, with the armor once more.

BERSERK 27 starts out with some great character work as well as introducing the mysterious Moon Child. Many theories exist about who this child is, and I have my own. Either way, the peace is shattered by what seems like a chance encounter with the possessed crocodiles and demon-twisted elephants of Kushan. But their next destination, the city of Vittrinnias is next on the invasion.

Guts and his companions are about to be embroiled in the war. How long can Guts go without using the armor? How long before it destroys him? BERSERK continues to be amazing. The armor represents all the themes of the series. It unleashes his violent id, allowing him to do what he wills. To kill. To slay. To destroy. Just like the apostles, it amplifies his darker components. But unlike them, he has a light to lead him back.

A light that might prove that there is a way to defeat Griffith. But the chances are slim, since Griffith now numbers as one of the Godhand, the entities who are stacking the deck of fate to achieve their plans. How can you defeat a god who can ensure every toss of the dice lands in their favor?
