A must-have resource
This book is a must have for new, often overwhelmed, expectant parents. The product reviews and comparison charts are extremely helpful in navigating the large world of baby products. My only criticism is that the book seems to be geared toward upper middle class parents with a decent amount of expendable income. While quality and cost are both factored into the assessments, there is little information about must haves vs. nice to haves. It seems the authors could to more to steer new parents toward true cost savings.

Super helpful, safety conscious resource for first time parents
As a first time parent, I found this book to be extremely helpful in weeding out the necessary and the not so necessary things you need to get for your little one. Not only that, but the authors paid a great deal of attention to safety issues when rating items as well, which was very helpful. It is a long read but manageble in chapter size chunks and I highly recommend reviewing this before setting up your baby registry. Don't rely on the overwhelming lists that retailers give you, read this and make up your own mind. You will discover that there are a lot of companies out there who will try to sell parents all kinds of stuff that not only you probably don't need, but could be downright dangerous (bumpers for cribs and sleep positioners come to mind, both of which are a big no no). I also recommend the AAP publication "Heading Home with your Newborn: from birth to reality" for pediatrician insight into the nitty gritty of caring for a newborn (e.g. includes diagrams on swaddling and diaper changing) if you, like me want to get a handle on things before your wee one arrives. Whatever you decide to read, start early: it's a lot of info and not as much time as you think!

1 of the few books to buy
In your list of books to get for your baby's arrival, this one is a MUST. It compares various products by quality, safety, comfort, consumer feedback, price, even eco-friendly for those who want to go green - so that you can ensure you have the best for the quality vs. price.
Products are rated from A+ to D, for different brands and different product lines in each brand.
You have so much information there : bedding supplies, clothes, pampers, wipes, strollers, car seats, maternity stuffs, feeding, etc...
It also give you several options in terms of buying : internet, stores, 2nd hand, etc...
+ you also have some good tips of things you might be wondering about when it is your !st child (is ok to use a pacifier? what do I REALLY need? How to ensure your baby's safety when he sleeps?...)
It is NOT sponsored by any brand or company so it re-assures on the trust given to any judgement.
I am expecting a baby and I am relying on this book (and good sense of course) for everything I get and it does save me a lot of energy, time and money to find the best = This one should really be on your MUST HAVE list ;)

A true time and money saver!
I was completely overwhelmed by all the different products available for children of all ages. This is our first baby and I had no idea where to start. This book has really helped us narrow down the must-haves, all while keeping with our #1 concern, SAFETY. There are so many nice looking, expensive products out there that are either not safe or not necessarily needed or both. This book gives you the low down on just about every baby product maker, telling you what's safest, what's most expensive, what's least expensive and helps narrow your focus down to what is really needed for babies these days. Great book for anyone expecting, especially first time parents!

This book was great in narrowing down brands and ranking top baby products ...
Truly helpful. This book was great in narrowing down brands and ranking top baby products and companies for ALL gear, toys, accessories, and furniture. However, the website (which you have to buy extra) offers product reviews by actual parents and purchasers. You might as well just get the online subscription which has the same content as the book PLUS the reviews.

Please don't waste your time!!
I was referred this book by a family member. I was told that this book was the best thing that ever happened to them. Naturally I bought it without looking at the reviews. The day it arrived, I set about reading this "magical, life changing book". I have NEVER been so disappointed in my life. What a complete waste of $9, not to mention my time! I don't know what kind of magical land that the authors live in, but I could actually save more money, not doing what they mention. I have found much more useful information talking to complete strangers with kids! Do your own research, listen and ask your friends that have kids already, look at reviews online, but please don't buy this garbage!! If you want something with quality and value, don't listen to one word this book says.

First Time Parents, buy this book!
A must read for first time parents! This is the 'consumer guide' of baby products and if I had to recommend one book to read while pregnant, this is it! Just a word of advice-reference this as soon as you learn you are preganant, so you can take the time to read up on and research these products BEFORE you register! It takes some time (days-weeks), especially if you are OCD like me and want to fully educate yourself and spouse lol. I even took this book into the store with me while registering...Worth every penny!

Get this book!
I'm currently 8 months pregnant and bought this book because of a high recommendation from a friend when I was in my early first trimester. While it's not something I've sat down and attempted to read from cover to cover, I've often consulted it over the past few months when making decisions on which baby products to go with. My husband and I are minimalists that care greatly about our baby's safety and well-being and also like for whatever products we do invest in to be "nice" (well-made, attractive, safe, nothing that will fall apart in a couple of years even if it does retail for cheaper than a competitive brand).
As first-time parents, we had no idea what things we would need and which we would not, but this book has definitely helped us to stay on track over the past few months when it's come to creating our baby registry and buying things on our own. I would HIGHLY recommend this book- especially to first-time parents or even just someone who hasn't had a baby in a few years and baby product options may have changed a lot since your last. My mom (a mother of two adults and first-time grandma) also frequently asks me to look things up in the book for her as she's stocking up on her own baby essentials to have at home.

Your insider's view into the Baby Industrial Complex of crap you think you need
I was told by several friends to get this book as soon as they found out I was pregnant. It has been one of my favorite books because it gives an insider's view into the Baby Industrial Complex, which you will soon discover is kind of insane. I had no idea that car seats are kind of like cars...under the hood many of them are the same exact seat, just repackaged and rebranded for different price points and different stores, some claiming to have "exclusivity."
I learned which companies are reputable and which ones to avoid. I learned which products are a total waste of money (hello, diaper stacker) and which ones are worth purchasing and when (this is important). I wanted a crib with the least amount of chemicals used possible and thanks to this book I found a lovely Romina crib and non-toxic glider/rocker. I was very pleased that organic and non-toxic/low-toxic products are mentioned and reviewed.
You also get a checklist of what and how much (like clothing, diapers) to buy and how to avoid over-buying.
What I loved most besides the book is that I read it before ever walking into Buy Buy Baby or any other baby store and it kept me from getting lost in the rabbit hole of baby products that a new parent might assume they need but really don't. I depended on this book so much to help make purchase decisions for large items like the car seat, crib, glider/rocker and crib mattress and also to help build my registry, which I'm happy to say is pretty streamlined so we don't end up drowning in baby products we'll never use.
Get this book and read it before you buy anything.
