Careless whisper...

I really rate this book 2.5 stars and the extra half is because I am so invested in this series. Three new issues were revealed in this book, but not one was resolved. I can't even say that there was a cliffhanger ending, because the story just stops. I got confused for a second when there was no new chapter to follow the final sentence. The book also veers from the usual pattern of each book following a different sister. We spent just as much time with Camille as we did with Delilah. If not for the sex scenes with Shade there would have been nothing about this story that made it Delilah's. Also at this point there are to many damn characters. At one point Delilah and Camille realize that they forgot all about maggie, and to be fair who can blame them. Between worrying about themselves, their sisters, Iris, Bruce, Iris' twins, Iris' mother-in-law, Nerissa, Menolly's daughter what's her name, Roz, Vanzir, Smokey, Trillian, Shade, Chase, Sharah, that Karask chick, Grandmother Coyote, Bran, Derek, Chrysandra, the couple that owns the coffee shop, Tim the former transvestite, Tim's husband, Trenyth, Asteria, Carter, Tad, Albert, Sephreh, and their new found cousins Daniel and Hester, who could fault them for letting Maggie slip their minds.

There were to many characters and to many mysteries/adventures. Find a out what's up with the evil building, find a missing elf, and deal with the beginning of a war. I understand the war is the beginning of a new story arc, but the building and the girl issues should have been resolved. Some characters die, but as you see from my list above there are so damn many it was hard to care, and those aren't even all the players in this story. I really felt cheated with this book, I hope the next one gets back on track.

*****************************************************spoilers********************************************************

I wish Sharah had been the one to die, because that character is useless. The more time spent developing her the less sense she makes. Starting with her and Chase. I hated that they got together, he was supposed to be getting his head together but then he is screwing her? I still think Sharah set Delilah up to find Chase screwing his ex so they would break up. Then she pops up pregnant. What?!?!?!? Otherworld has the best birth control ever. You go to a "witch" and she stops your fertility until you go back and get it. If the D'Artigo sisters could afford it, surely a princess could. Not to mention regular old condoms. It seemed to me she got knocked up on purpose. But then we learn she never had any long term plans for Chase anyway because she's supposed to marry some Elf dude for political reason's and she knows she can't bring her baby "home" because half breeds aren't accepted at court. Which again made her getting pregnant idiotic. And when Delilah gave Chase the suck it up talk I could have screamed. What the hell was Delilah talking about. Sharah abandoned her new born baby. Period. She could have said if you want me to rule than my man and baby are part of the deal. But she didn't, because she never had any intention of including them in her world.

Delilah and Camille were also getting on my nerves when they kept whining about the war. Yes they were there, yes they were in danger. But after a couple of hours with only a few scrapes and bruises they went on they merry little way back earth side. They took long hot showers, ate warm fresh food, and slept in their cozy beds. After a while it was ridiculous, we get it you saw bad things. But your father, Queen Asteria, and thousands of other people are dead, with more injured, homeless, and stuck in a war zone. Focus on that. Also why did they decide to meet the cousins? They know that they and anyone associated with them are targets so what was the point of dragging innocent strangers into their drama?

It feels unfinished

There were a lot of aspects to this book but it ended without closing any of the story lines. This left the story feeling incomplete and a disappointment to me.

Way too much going on, good luck thing to keep track of everything..

As most of the other reviews have stated, this book was a bit of a let down. I've always enjoyed how each book is from a different viewpoint but this one just didn't do it for me. There is now so much going on that at times during the book I had to stop & try to remember "what problem does this enemy bring to the table again?". It was just too much. So much left unresolved, so much to try & keep track of. I applaud the authors ability to keep it all straight. There also seems to be too much "filler", via the sex scenes. I'm all for a steamy bout of sex but too many scenes equals me skipping over it to get to the actual plot.I fear there will end up being way too many issues that need to be resolved & thus the author won't be able to give proper attention to each one, so we will end up with sloppy, half assed resolutions or a few good "fixes" & a whole lot that just couldn't be resolved. Either scenario is unsatisfactory.I hope the next book will cut out a good portion of what's currently piled up high on the girls' plate, that way we can focus on the main issues, namely the impending war. This is such a great series that I won't let one or 2 not so great books deter me from buying the next book but if they continue in this fashion,I might just have to give up on our dear sisters...

Major Turning Point In Series But Not My Favorite

I'm a huge fan of Yasmine Galenorn's Otherworld series and Autumn Whispers was a major turning point for the D'Artigo sisters. The scales of good versus evil certainly shift in this installment. So much action, death, and destruction.

I guess I should mention that Delilah is my least favorite of the sisters so I wasn't surprised that her book kinda fell flat for me. I was more interested in what was going on with Camille and Menolly than Delilah. That being said, this was a better read than Delilah's last book, Shaded Vision. Kitten has grown by leaps-and-bounds and I thoroughly enjoyed reading about her working her Death Maiden duties.

So what was my issue? There was no resolution to any of the problems introduced in Autumn Whispers. While I understand that this is a new story arc, I would've liked a proper ending.

My issues with Delilah aside, I look forward to the next book in the Otherworld series and hopefully getting a little resolution to their current problems. Major things happened to Menolly in Autumn Whispers and I'm curious how they are going to play out in Crimson Veil.

Probably the last one I'll read..

I was shell-shocked to turn the page and find that the book was done. The only thing accomplished in this book was killing the litter of 'badies' in the woods. Whoopty-Flip! After reading all the books to this point, and enjoying them, I was thoroughly disappointed with Autumn Whispers. Lots of spinning wheels & going no where. This definately set up other issues; missing fairy, possible sex-slave/evil building & war..to that end I think this book should have been a $0.99 over-view of things to come.."Writing a To-Do List in Autumn" maybe? Just bummed that this book didn't live up to the series in my opinion.
Also...enough with the 1/2 dozen pages explaining who people are! If you read the series you know. What would be more helpful??? Pronunciations of some of these names!
I feel bad that I'm giving this review because I have so enjoyed the rest of the books. :(

Disappointment

I am a little disappointed with this installment for the Otherworld series. Delila has never been my favorite sister, but I could usually count on her to sew up loose ends that needed it. In this book the premise of the story at the beginning was not resolved by the end and instead we get a whole new direction about half way through the book. I understand that the story has to take certain turns in order to continue and grow, but I was left wondering how things could go from here, the job of finding the lost girl was Delila's, she has not done that and we are on to Menolly's story........... is she going to finish the work? I hope things get better with the story. I did love that this book actually took a minute for each of the other sisters. I felt that in doing this it shows the girls are more connected and more a team that in previous novels. I love how much the girls have opened their home and created a large family for themselves, I am looking forward to how this plays out in future installments.

The extended porn doesn't add to the book

I give this book 3 stars, because while I enjoyed reading it, it could have been sooo much better. I've read most of the books in this series, the extended porn scenes detract from the overall book and are sometimes at odds with the characters involved. They are for the most part unnecessary, contrived and add nothing.

Not The Best

I really really love this series. I have the books on pre-order as soon as I possibly can, and I adore Galenorn's blog.

All that being said, this installment was an utter dud. Too many issues (3 MAJOR ones at least) were being introduced, and not a one was resolved. It felt like filler, really. I don't have a problem with the abundance of characters in this series, but I was having major troubles connecting to any of them.

Speaking of characters, the three sisters are my favorite characters of all time, but Delilah and Camille's attitudes really irritated me. I don't want to spoil anything, but after Major Plot Point 2, I wanted to smack them both. We get it, it was horrifying. Yet I can't help but feel that they have faced some worse things, and their constant "you don't understand, you weren't there, you don't get it" was aggravating. In Major Plot Point 3 I found myself utterly PO-d. Delilah's little speech to Chase didn't make any sense given what we know of her character. Chase had every right to be mad as hell, but the conflict was halted right before it began. Sharah wouldn't even name their baby, yet after Delilah's little "oh well deal with it Chase, it's like if she were in the military being deployed, suck it up" attitude, he's totally fine.

Delilah in general really killed the book for me. Her attitude hasn't remained constant in any of her books, and she hasn't grown in a positive way. She adored Chase, she fought Karvanak to rescue him, yet all of a sudden they aren't right together, and she says that Shade is "twice the lover as Chase". Huh? Overall, it feels like Delilah doesn't really have a voice. She isn't consistient and her narration and attitude in this installment is a detriment.

I'm hoping Menolly's book is better by far, but this book is on my "don't read again" list...sad, when all the previos books I cherish! 2.5 stars

Decent series

I like the story line and the sisters are an eclectic group of women , but Yasmine should swap out the references to FBH and FBH/CSI to 1 time in the beginning for the uninformed and just use human as the tag line there after. Menolly is my favorite sister.
