Short and sweet and to the point

This was a simplistic little book with illustrations by Chris Riddell. It was simply about how important libraries are, finding something you are passionate about and going for it. It also mentions a little bit about the artistic process. I loved the commentary on developing thick skin and accept that failure as well as constructive criticism is part of the process. This was a nonfiction motivational read that was quick and to the point and I quite enjoyed it.

Art does matter...

But ultimately, while I seriously appreciate the theme, it went onto my donation pile. The line drawings are clever, but I felt like I'd just eaten a dish with no lasting savor.

Only Okay

I'm not sure the illustrations add much to the text, which can easily be read elsewhere.

Redundant in a Good Way

I really enjoyed this book. I believe the illustrations added a deeper quality to the statements and quotes by Neil. Most of what Neil Gaimen writes in this book can actually be found in his Inspirational Commencement Speech at the University of the Arts 2012 video on YouTube. So, I actually felt like it was somewhat redundant, but in a good way. This is one of those short books you give to an artist or aspiring writer so that they have to go back to and read for affirmation on pursuing their dreams. It’s not a bad book at all!
