About the Author Brandon Mull is the author of the New York Times , USA TODAY , and Wall Street Journal bestselling Beyonders and Fablehaven series, as well as the bestselling Five Kingdoms, Candy Shop Wars, and Dragonwatch series. He resides in Utah, in a happy little valley near the mouth of a canyon. Brandon’s greatest regret is that he has but one life to give for Gondor.

Features & Highlights

  • Arcadeland is full of magical secrets as well as fun and games in the second book in the Candy Shop War series, from the #1
  • New York Times
  • bestselling author of the Beyonders and Fablehaven series.
  • Nate and his friends already know Mrs. White, the owner of the Sweet Tooth Ice Cream & Candy Shoppe, where the treats are magical in addition to delicious. And now they’re introduced to Mrs. White’s brother, Mr. White, who owns a local amusement center called Arcadeland. At Arcadeland, kids can play games and earn thousands of tickets that are redeemable for one of four kinds of stamps: jets, tanks, subs, and racecars. Could it be true that these stamps allow kids to fly through the air? Or breathe underwater? Or run faster than a car? But Mr. White is hiding a secret: when all four stamp clubs are filled, he will be able to retrieve perhaps the most powerful talisman ever. For Nate and his friends, it will take more than candy to fight and win this war!

Author of the decade

I don't know how he can keep his characters separate. Just reading them, I think about his other books! He's very talented and my kids can't get enough either. (They actually use the candy names when playing Candy Crush! Cracks me up!)

I really enjoy reading this book to him

My nine year old loves this series. He is not the best reader for his age, so I read it to him. He can not wait for me to read the next chapter. He will talk about what has happened in the book or what he thinks will happen throughout the day in anticipation for the next chapter. I really enjoy reading this book to him, such a creative story.

Amazing!

I personally hold Brandon Mull responsible for the lack of sleep in our home for the past week!! First me, then my 10 year old son suffered from sleep deprivation while reading this book, followed by 2 weeks of discussing the pros/cons of the candy choices and what WE would have chosen!!
This book was engaging and detailed enough for me to love, and action packed enough to keep my 4th grader in from recess for 2 days in order to finish it. If I could give it more stars I would, so I highly recommend it for anyone!!

My son's FAVORITE book ever!

My 13-year old is not an avid reader. In fact, it's like pulling teeth trying to get him to read anything besides comic book or Pokemon books. This book is now officially hashed because he has read it MANY, MANY times. He laughs while turning the pages, and will frequently thumb through it to re-read his favorite parts. Definitely the best purchase EVER!

A great sequel

My Thoughts-
Such a fun and perfect book for middle graders. I loved the first book and this one is just as exciting. We have a new villain, Mr. White, the brother of the previous bad lady in book one. He is able to use wax figures of people to control them. He is a great evil character who stops at nothing to win. As a reader, you know his threats towards our main characters are real. What is also fun is that the previous villain, Mrs. White, is also in this book. She is now Lindy, a young girl with no memory of her former deeds. I liked seeing her character revamped and the ability she now has to start over.

The quest for Uweya, an artifact of great magical powers, is at the heart of the book. It is fun to see the kids with their magic stamps with the abilities of flight, strength, speed and under water breathing. They have to use their powers to solve individual quests that lead up to the big one. I like how they use their wits and work together, even while on different teams.

The setting, an arcade, enough said, kids will relate.

Another score for Mull. 5 Stars!

The dialogue is stilted so much that the kids don't sound like kids at all

If I could give this less than one star, I would. The dialogue is stilted so much that the kids don't sound like kids at all. This is just wretched writing. I have to finish it (3 more chapters) because my middle school students are reading it (assigned by another teacher).

These books appeal to adults and children 9 and up.

I read the Fablehaven series by this author and liked it so much that I read both of the books in this series. These books are about kids who have magical powers and go on a quest using their powers to overcome obstacles. I ordered both books in this series for my grandson who is participating in a reading challenge for his 5th grade class.
