Description

"In this thought-provoking and well-written account, Bill takes the reader on a life-affirming journey through one of the world's most vivid and exotic continents. Many dream about it, few make it happen. Luckily for us, Bill is one of those few." -- Lois Pryce , author of Lois on the Loose and Red Tape White Knuckles "So many adventure-travel books are either endless tales of derring-do, or equally endless chronicles of disaster. Bill Dwyer's book neatly balances the daring and disaster, the highs and lows he encountered on his journey, and because of that it strikes home as an honest and deeply personal account of an everyman's adventure. It's the kind of book that will leave you staring at the ceiling and thinking, I could do that. And that is the very best kind of adventure-travel book."-- Jonathan Hanson , founder and director of the Overland Expo. Bill Dwyer has been seeking out adventure on two wheels since 2006 and documenting where his wanderlust spirit takes him through writing, photos and video. Bill has captivated a growing online audience, which inspired him to publish Anxiety Across the Americas, his first book. You can follow his adventures at AtlasRider.com.

Features & Highlights

  • Growing weary of his corporate cubicle in the American Southwest, Bill Dwyer chucks it all and rides his motorcycle towards Ushuaia, Argentina, the southernmost city in the world. In his 20,000 mile solo journey he encounters corruption in Mexico, finds himself stranded in the highlands of Bolivia and gets arrested in Nicaragua. The road presents Bill with fears to face, immense kindness of strangers, and huge challenges to overcome, all while he copes with his anxiety disorder. Join Bill as he shares a candid account of his experiences bumbling across the Americas.

Jenny's such a pain in the backside

Being a motorcyclist and an ardent traveller myself, this book seemed to be just pefect for me. But I also find the silly habit some people have of giving their vehicles names rather stupid.

Sadly the author of this book not only calls his bike "Jenny", he reminds us of this to an excrutiatingly annoying degree. It's Jenny this and Jenny that and Jenny whatever, and so it goes on and on and on. To use the author's own words "it weirded me out" to the extent that I couldn't get past the first few chapters and had to give up on what otherwise might have been a good story.

Sorry Jenny, but I'm putting you in the bin in my kitchen, which I've named "Trash".

hard to put down

I'm not sure if it's because I became addicted to Atlas Rider's trip videos on YouTube or if he really did write a phenomenal book. Whatever the case, I could not put it down. Thanks for taking the time and effort to put this together! I would imagine every motorcycle rider interested in international travel would love to read Dwyer's journey. Dios te bendiga, man.

A bit too egocentric.

I didn't mind the price of the book and the first half flowed well enough but I wish the author had put more effort into immersing the reader into the environments he was experiencing rather than mostly talking about his headspace. The lack of careful editing was readily apparent in the second half. By the time I reached the epilogue I had completely lost interest.

As good as it gets !!!

This book was top notch.I have read many of the big name adventure books and this one is right there with them or better.
The Author has a very effective writing style that keeps it real and very interesting.
You won't get bored with this book and the unique ending is something different too.

orth a read if you like this genre- especially bikes, travel and Latin America.

Fairly entertaining. The parts about bike-related experiences and adventures were entertaining, especially some of the people he met and the situations (often due to dumb decisions) were amusing. There were some large gaps in the story and at times the narrative lost its thread.

Two and a half thumbs up! (one broken)

Very good description of the highs and lows of extended travel. As a sufferer of similar difficulties, I found the book inspiring and motivational. Very surprising ending....

Beats Ewan

Just finished it. A distinct book from others I've read. My order of enjoyment is:
One Man Caravan
Jupiters Travels
Two Wheels Thru Terror
Anxiety
(Skip several spaces)
Long Way Round

Needs a fair bit of proof reading but overall well done.

Anxiety across the americas

This was a nice read, nothing real informative if you are a motorcyclist looking for insights into traveling out of the country. There were a few gems (multiple driving license) that could come in handy.
