Description

"Becker's work about the end of life does what most children's authors hope to accomplish. He creates a space for children to reconcile their emerging understanding of the world with their own rich fantasy lives. His work is honest and respects the developmental curiosity necessary for children tackling one of life's most challenging moments: its end. " Justin Schleifer, MD Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist Alpert Medical School at Brown University "Deeply moving...beautifully illustrated" - Michael Shermer, New York Times Bestselling Author of The Believing Brain, monthly columnist at Scientific American "The most deeply moving account I've ever come across on the ultimate question of life, death, and meaning. In only 200 words this beautiful story captures what 2000 years of wisdom writing could not. Read it. Then read it again. And then get back to living your life in a way that matters because now you know how." Michael Shermer, New York Times Bestselling Author of The Believing Brain, monthly columnist at Scientific American "Gorgeous and amazing!" - Dale McGowan, author of Parenting Beyond Belief. "Tackles big ideas in a way that young children can understand." - Emily Cook, founder of Build Your Library Homeschooling Curriculum "I wish I had these years ago for my daughter. I wonder if she'll still get on my lap so I can read them to her now that she's 20." - Bob Novella, Skeptics' Guide To The Universe

Not recommending this

The paper material is horrible. It's cheap, almost printed from home material of paper. Also I am not thrill with content of the book. Strongly not recommending this product.

Recommended by a therapist- for kids and adults!

Phenomenal, gentle, thoughtful way to speak to your children about death. As a clinician, I come across many clients- both adults and children who struggle with all types of grief. I used this with my own son who developed a significant anxiety about death since his grandfather died and some idiot told him that thenworldmwas going to explore and burn us up. This book was concrete enough to answer children's questions without being harsh or scary. I actually started developing my own anxiety surrounding death considering my line of work and bought a copy for my agency to help me. Would highly recommend, not just for secular families but appropriate for those who have some belief in afterlife.

Helpful and Appropriate for Children

I bought this book after my mother died and I struggled to explain it to my 4 year old twins, especially in a way that didn't reference God because I don't want to force a particular belief system or religion onto them. This book handles death extremely well and I would highly recommend it to people looking to handle a difficult topic with younger children.

A must buy!!

This is a very good book, I love the art and the layout. This book helps adults and kids question and wonder about life. The unknown reality of death. The question that NO living organism on earth has a scientific factual answer for. Thought provoking and helps kids developmentally explore through their intellectual thought processes.
Great for a good brain exercise.

I bought this book to help my kids understand and properly go through their emotions for the death of our animal. My kids loved this book and so did I!

Beautiful!

Beautiful story & illustrations. We have pretty much every other Annabelle & Aiden book and this one is just as wonderful as the others. A gentle but well thought out description. Secular in nature which was a must for us.
