Description

"Infantrymen in Vietnam represented the best of "Middle America." This true life story depicts the essence of life in combat - the harsh living conditions as well as the intensity of ambushes and firefights. This book is a testament to the triumph of the human spirit." - Steve Donaldson, LTC, USA (Retired) "This memoir offers both a historical perspective and wisdom earned over a lifetime of reflection. Most importantly, Richard's story has a moral core. It is the story of a young man who demonstrates individual courage and commitment to duty when called upon to serve." - Dan Guenther, Marine Captain, Vietnam and author of China Wind "In vivid detail, Richard captures his journey from Iowa to Vietnam. He is commended for not only his service to our country, but for writing about what remains an often emotional part of U.S. history. His words put you in the foxhole, in the chopper and many times - in the thick of enemy fire. Insightful, powerful and at times heart wrenching." - Steffan Tubbs, Director, ACRONYM: The Cross-Generational Battle with PTSD and host, KOA NewsRadio Denver

Shameful story

Sorry I paid so much for the book. The author tells the story of how he participated in human trafficking. He let the worthless soldiers in his command use a "prostitute" who was only 13 years old. He said the event made him chuckle. I read the whole book hoping to find he had some sorrow about it, but no he is despicable person.

Very descriptive and informative read.

Very well written ,and remarkably detailed account of one Infantryman's experiences in the field and on the Fire Support Bases of Vietnam during the war. As a former grunt, I would not have wanted to walk in his boots. Every step could be his last.
