Features & Highlights

  • A sister’s promise and a wife’s promise. . .Kate must break one. Kate Hopper can list a million reasons why she doesn’t have kids. No, more like reasons why she shouldn’thave kids: genetics, a demanding career, and ultimately, the fear that she wasn’t cut out to be June Cleaver, Carol Brady or Claire Huxtable. TV moms always make it look so easy, but Kate knows better. When Kate’s sister refuses a lupus treatment, Kate is willing to say anything to save her sister’s life—even promising to have a baby. Kate decides to keep her rash words a secret from her husband until she can figure out whether she really wants to be a mother. Especially since they agreed their marriage would remain childless. Should she risk everything she has for the unknown?

Pleasantly Surprised

I had downloaded this book to my Kindle six months ago but had never gotten around to reading it. Always had something that seemed more interesting to me at the time to read. A few days ago I decided to start reading it and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. I couldn't stop reading it. I loved the characters and story line. I enjoyed it so much I already downloaded the sequel, "What Happiness Looks Like". I won't wait as long to start reading this next one.

Thought Provoking Premise, Great Follow-Through

I was intrigued by this book from the moment I knew what the premise was. My favorite thing about this book is that it doesn't assume all women want to be mothers. Nor does it portray the main character, Kate, as the stereotypical cold-hearted, callous career woman. The main character struggles with the question of having children after making a life-changing promise to her sister. She weighs the pros and cons. She faces the same tough choices a lot of women face: career or children? Can I have both? And while she's trying to figure all this out, she finds herself pulled in different directions by the two people closest to her--her sister and her husband.

Kate's journey is always intriguing, sometimes humorous, and also heartwarming. The plot kept me guessing, and I loved the characters. Karen Lenfestey did an excellent job with this book.
