A Pursuit of Home (Haven Manor)

In A Pursuit of Home, readers finally get the story from Jess's perspective. I have found her character to be intriguing from her first appearance in the Hawthorne House series, so it's was fun to see where else she has popped up and finally dig into her past. I wasn't really expecting her background to be what it was - it's tragic and filled with intrigue. In the end, not only is a family mystery solved, but an entire country is restored - exciting stuff!

The studious Derek seems like Jess's opposite, but she needs him to help her puzzle out the past. While he is at first interested in the history and mystery of everything, soon he finds himself invested for entirely different reasons. I love that Derek is not really the typical lead - much different from say, Ryland or one of the Hawthorne brothers. He's a studious art expert and can get lost for hours trying to puzzle out one thing. The dialogue between the two is especially fun. I also appreciated that characters not only from this series, but from Hunter's previous one played roles in this novel as well. It was fun catching up with them.

I wouldn't recommend reading the Haven Manor series out of order because they really do build on one another, and finding out more about Jess is just more fun because of her mystique in previous books. If you really want to do it up right, start with the Hawthorne House books - you'll have so much great reading ahead of you!

A Pursuit of Home wildly and beautifully exceeded my high expectations. From her mind-blowing backstory to the long-awaited glimpse into her heart and mind, Jess completely captivated my reader heart. The tough, no-nonsense exterior readers are so familiar with paired with her keen intellect gives Jess a Regency Wonder Woman turned 007 vibe and I love it!

Derek is the perfect brainiac sidekick for our superheroine because he continually surprised me as well! Between their banter, his social awkwardness, her brutally blunt honesty, and the whirlwind plot involving twists, turns, beloved characters from previous Haven Manor installments, and friends from the Hawthorne House set… this story is totally ridiculously delicious.

Kristi Ann Hunter is a top-notch storyteller who crafts genuine characters and stories with heart. I highly recommend her books and I’m delighted to have them on my all-time favorites shelf.

Wow! Jess's story was such a surprise! We got to know Jess a little bit in the previous two books in the Havon Manor series and I was intrigued to know more...but I didn't expect what was going to be revealed in this book!

I loved the mystery and puzzle-solving aspect in A Pursuit of Home. It added some intensity as they were racing to find the hidden artifact before the enemies did. I loved seeing Jess and Derek interact, as you could tell they had feelings for each other but were fighting them. ;)

The story ended well and I really enjoyed this book. I loved the entire series and recommend them to fans of historical romance. I can't wait to read Hunter's next book. ;)

Kristi Ann Hunter does like to build the suspense for her stories! I have been longing for Jess's story for such a long time. And let me tell you...Ms. Hunter did not disappoint. Adventure around every corner. A family mystery. Puzzles and history....oh yes! THIS has proved to be the perfect adventure for Jess and Derek...And a few familiar faces join this story! 😀

I listened to A Pursuit of Home through SCRIBD. The narrator, Beverly A. Crick, captured the story beautifully. It helped to hear Jess's accent and the languages spoken. I love all the twists and turns...the faith and spiritual journey...the romance and friendships. Jess never hesitates to push the boundaries of proper society. And Derek has a firm appreciation for the things of history and the way things are. His fondness for Jess is endearing and they are so fit for each other! Wit and humor infuse the pages and the characters will become your new best friends.

Jess has been an enigma since the first book in this incredible series, A Defense of Honor. She’s cantankerous and intensely private. I was intrigued to read her story and taken completely by surprise. Jess has a sharp tongue but she is funny. Oh the dialogue between her and Derek was downright hilarious at times. He’s marvelous, by the way. A man of God who desires to help others makes him the perfect counterpart to Jess’s prickly exterior.

I enjoyed this book and didn’t want it to end. Hunter has once again given Regency fans a series to read over and over again, making it a modern ‘classic’. I can’t wait to see what is next in her repertoire of book ideas.

Kristi Ann Hunter’s Haven Manor series is a Regency delight. The latest addition, A Pursuit of Home, proves to be everything I expected for Jess Beauchene (but of course, never would have guessed). It is a fitting conclusion to the series—with appearances from its many beloved characters (and even a few from the Hawthorne House series).

When Jess needs help solving a family mystery, she knows only one person to ask for help: Derek Thornbury, an art expert—and a man she cannot stand. Still, he cannot resist the pull of historical intrigue she offers, and the mismatched pair begins an unlikely journey neither could have anticipated.

Together, Jess and Derek make a fun pair. She is fierce and impulsive, while he is steady and cerebral. They may seem like opposites (and exchange no shortage of witty jabs), but he sees her better than anyone else has, making the slowly growing romance feel so natural.

I wholly enjoyed A Pursuit of Home (and the rest of the series, too!). If you love Regency romance, do yourself a favor and take trip after trip to Haven Manor.

Readers of her earlier books “met” Jess and have been eagerly awaiting her story. A Pursuit of Home is much like Jess, full of spunk, heartache, loyalty, adventure, and plenty of plot twists. Characters from previous books in this series make an appearance, much to the delight of the reader.

I loved this book! With “A Pursuit of Home” Kristi Ann Hunter outdoes herself. This book has lots of mystery, intrigue, and romance. I loved reading Jess’ story. Jess is determined to find out the hidden secrets of her past and finds love in an unlikely place. This is my favorite of all Kristi’s books. She brings back characters from her other books which adds to the story, however you don’t have to have read her other books to enjoy this one. I would recommend that you read “A Pursuit of Home” and then go read Kristi’s other books.

A Pursuit of Home by Kristi Ann Hunter is the final book in her Haven Manor Series. The heroine, Jessamine (Jess) Beauchene was originally introduced in A Noble Masquerade.

It's been over ten years since Jess left her home and has been on the run ever since then. It was so fun that the most unlikely of people would be the one to help Jess. Derek Thornbury with his love of all things bookish and artifacts was a great frustration for Jess throughout the story. I so enjoyed the way Kristi Ann Hunter brought two unlikely characters together. Sparks definitely fly. Throw in intrigue and supporting characters trying to push the two together and you have the making of a great story. This is one you won't want to miss.
