Description

‘One of the best books we’ve read in ages…the perfect girlie read.’ Reveal 'Fresh, witty and thoroughly enjoyable.' The Sun ‘I laughed my slippers off!’ Alexandra Brown ‘Fans of Sophie Kinsella can add a new author to their roster of ‘Must Read’ Women's Fiction Writers…fun and lively.’ –HUFFINGTON POST Lucy Holliday’s first major work, a four-line poem called ‘The Postman is Very Good’, was completed shortly before her fifth birthday. It was such an enjoyable experience that she has wanted to be a writer ever since. She is married with a daughter and lives in Wimbledon.

Features & Highlights

  • A hilarious and heart-warming debut and the perfect girl’s night in. For fans of Sophie Kinsella and Lucy Diamond. LOL funny!!
  • Unlucky in love, failed actress Libby Lomax has retreated into the world of classic movies, where the immortal lives of the screen goddesses offer so much more in the way of romance than her own life.
  • After a terrible day on the set of a cult TV sci-fi series where she has proved herself to be the antithesis of feminine poise and embarrassed herself in front of heartthrob actor Dillon O’Hara, she plonks herself down in front of her trillionth viewing of Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Relaxing on her battered old couch, salvaged from the props department by her best friend Olly, Libby is gob smacked to find actual Screen Icon, Audrey Hepburn, sitting beside her. Dressed in her little black dress, wearing her trademark sunglasses, Audrey proffers advice to the hapless Libby between ladylike puffs on her vintage cigarette holder. And so, Audrey becomes Libby’s confidante and friend – but has Libby got what it takes to turn her life from a Turkey to a Blockbuster? With a little bit of Audrey Hepburn magic, she might just pull it off…
  • A Night in With Audrey Hepburn is the first in a series of three books following the life and loves of Libby Lomax as she blossoms from Z-lister to A-lister and all of the stages in between with a little bit of help from some very special friends.

To me chick lit is funny, heart warming

To me chick lit is funny, heart warming, entertaining, and while the protagonist finds herself in silly situations people care about her, and don't hold her silliness against her. I feel good after reading Sophie Kinsella. I read this book because the reviews compared this author to Kinsella. There are some good points, protagonist has a couple of good friends who love her. Parts with Audrey Hepburn were enjoyable to read. But the humor is mean spirited, and protagonist is routinely humiliated in nasty ways. Her father ignores her, her mother and sister treat her as a slave often though the sister does seem to care about her rarely. Lucy has very low self worth and accepts the routine humiliations and abuse from everyone without a whimper. I hope she grows in future books but the spa incident that was tweeted was so mean and nasty I stopped reading and deleted this book. Started reading second in series to see if protagonist gets some self worth, but she just sleeps around looking for love and that made me feel sorry for her, not laugh. So will not be reading anymore by this author. The author seems to have little respect or liking for her own protagonist. I would swear this was a male writer exhibiting his misogyny but disguising it with weak mean spirited humor. Or else the author hates herself!

I heart Audrey

Disclaimer: I didn't know this was the beginning of a series, so the ending was a huge let down. That said, this book is hysterical. So funny at times, it's almost slapstick. I adore Libby and the adorable Olly, as well as the spot-on characterization of Audrey Hepburn. Just reading about her made me want to be more stylish. As I said, the ending is a let down, but Holliday's next book comes out this fall (I think), so you won't have to wait too long ...

Hilarious and full of wit.

I LOVED this book. It was quirky and witty and smart. I enjoyed the ridiculous situations Libby gets into, and very much enjoyed the fantastic dialogue and banter between characters. The characters were unique and had depth. The story progressed at a wonderful pace. I couldn't put this book down. Thank you Lucy, for writing a realistic heroine and hilarious heroine!

Lighthearted, sweet, and funny

If you’re a fan of Sophie Kinsella/Madeleine Wickham you’ll love this author. The premise is cute and you can’t help but fall in love with the adorkable Libby.

The best setting I've read all year!

The best setting I've read all year! An extremely tiny apartment (half the size it was supposed to be!) with a misplaced vintage couch and an appearing Audrey Hepburn… are you sold yet? This book had me laughing out loud! (Libby's kumquat martini request still makes me smirk!) What's more, Audrey's dialogue seemed spot-on and brought a charming aspect to an otherwise hilarious book. Can't wait for a night in with Marilyn Monroe and Grace Kelly!
