Features & Highlights

  • What is the connection between spirituality and weight loss? Best-selling author Marianne Williamson is about to answer that question for you in her groundbreaking new book, bringing you 21 spiritual lessons to help you surrender your weight forever. These lessons form a holistic paradigm for weight loss, addressing the spiritual, emotional, and psychological elements involved in what Williamson refers to as “conscious weight loss.” If you are a food addict, a compulsive eater, or someone who for any reason sees food as the enemy, this book is for you.
  • A Course in Weight Loss addresses the true causal root of your weight-loss issues: a place within you where you have forgotten your divine perfection. This forgetfulness has confused not only your mind but also your body, making you reach for that which cannot sustain you . . . and reject that which does. As your mind reclaims its spiritual intelligence, your body will reclaim its natural intelligence as well.
  • The 21 lessons in this book will take you on a deep, sacred journey. One step at a time, you will learn to shift your relationship with yourself—and your body—from one of fear to one of love. And you will begin to integrate the various parts of yourself—mind, body, and spirit—to become, once again, and in all ways, the beautiful and peaceful person you were created to be.
  • As Williamson writes:“If your ‘weighty thinking’ does not change, then even if you lose weight you’ll retain an overwhelming subconscious urge to gain it back. It’s less important how quickly you lose weight, and more important how holistically you lose weight; you want your mind, your emotions, and your body to all ‘lose weight.’"Weight that disappears from your body but not from your soul is simply recycling outward for a while but is almost certain to return. It’s self-defeating, therefore, to struggle to drop excess weight unless you are also willing to drop the thought-forms that initially produced it and now hold it in place.“When it comes to your enjoyment of eating, your best days are not behind you but ahead of you!” So get ready to begin a new relationship with food . . . and with yourself.

Very inspirational

We use this book in an overeaters class on weight loss. It is well written and spot on topic. Very helpful to overcome tramas and triggers that cause us to overeat. Spirtually based. Never preachy on any God or Religion, but not officive to those who follow a religion. Kind caring and thoughtful. Be kind to yourself is the message, love yourself.

Do you really want to change?

If you're not ready, put the book down.

If someone had given this to me a three months ago I would had scoffed and hated it, but then I read Geneen Roth's "When Food Is Love" and got a big wake up call. I'd been staring it right in the face but didn't understand why I was doing this to myself until reading her book. BUT her book only gave me awareness. I didn't know where to go from there.

This book found me three times before I finally said alright, let's do this. Don't expect to just read a book. This truly is a course and you have to be willing to follow it. I am often scared or exhausted by what I have to do in the lesson but that in itself is proof how much I need to do it. Because if I can't write a paragraph about what I'm ashamed of without feeling a catch in my throat, then there is surely something there to address.

I'm currently on lesson 14. I've been working on it for about three weeks now and I have changed so much. I know you all want to hear 'oh my god I lost like 50lbs in 20days!! woohoo' but that's not what this book is about and the more appealing that little sentence is to you the more you should probably read and follow through it.

It's powerful. If you let it be.

I feel like I could write an entire book on my journey through this book. And I'm only about half way through.

What do you have to lose? Except some weight and self hatred?

Words straight from Heaven

I'm almost towards the middle of the book, I can't wait each day for that alone time when It's me and the book. This book is amazingly beautiful. If you love spiritual books this is the one. It's a weight loss based on Love and trust in God. It's one of Marianne's best creations. Although all her books are beautiful. It's a true work of LOVE.

the right tools to get the job done

I have loved reading many things by Marianne Williamson in the past. So I looked forward to reading through this to see how I can better help myself as I attempt yet again to lose weight.

What I wasn't expecting was how emotional this book would actually be. One of the core concepts behind this book is to get in touch your spirituality and healing your inner self. And you do this through exercises and journaling. If you are completely honest with the exercises and the journaling you can start to break through to the deep seated fears that may be keeping you fat.

I know that there were many things that I started looking at during these exercises. I know that I still have quite a long way to go on my journey, but at least I decided to take the first step.

This book may not be for everyone. You really have to be open to working through your issues. This isn't a book that will give you instant solutions to your problems. It does provide you the tools to help you fix yourself.

In conjunction with the Wakela's World Disclosure Statement, I received a product in order to enable my review. No other compensation has been received. My statements are an honest account of my experience with the brand. The opinions stated here are mine alone.

MIGHT HELP A FEW; WON'T HELP MOST

OK. Everyone who reads this book has a weight problem and probably for a long time and wants to get help from it.
I knew nothing about Ms. Williamson until now, in 2019, when she's making her improbable and absurd run for the Democratic presidential nomination. I read none of her books.
There is one FUNDAMENTAL QUESTION: WILL THIS BOOK HELP YOU CONTROL YOUR WEIGHT AND LOSE WEIGHT???
Nutshell answer: For some people but not many, yes. For most people, I doubt it very much.
Why?
First off, this isn't, thankfully, another useless diet book. It seeks to get into the why's of your psyche and above all of your soul to heal your overeating. As others have observed, it's an intensely spiritual/religious book. So right off the bat, if you are an atheist or agnostic, don't waste your time-it's not for you. I am a believer so that isn't a problem for me.
But, while I fully subscribe to the power of prayer and do believe God hears all and answers some prayers and can be of enormous help to us if we let him, Williamson has written a LONG AND TEDIOUS book that goes way beyond that basic premise. Which comes to one enormous fault of this book...IT IS GROSSLY OVERWRITTEN. Marianne Williamson takes a page..or two..to write what could and should be written, powerfully and succinctly, in l or 2 sentences and there is enormous repetitiveness...indeed I got the impression much of it was filler for her to figure out how to write 247 pages.
She does make a number of very sound and accurate points...but in a repetitive and excessive style that made the book drudgery to read. I very much doubt that most overweight people will find this book really helpful despite the scattered very good points that shine thru page after page of repetitive blather. And some of her recommendations (all of which if acted on would fill up your entire life during every single day) strike me as frankly preposterous to intelligent, thinking, and yes, educated people..e.g., having a special weight-loss alter erected in your home on top of which are all sorts of things including a "God Box" to insert prayers into and then dip in from time to time to remove an utter them; and even screwier, getting naked and anointing yourself with oil all over replicating Biblical practices from the time of the Hebrew temples, etc. etc.
Bottom line: There are thousands of books out there on weight loss; the only ones ever worth reading are those which deal with the fundamental fact: overeating is a PSYCHOLOGICAL PROBLEM AND NOT A PHYSICAL ONE. That established, in my long life, I've found exactly four to be of enormous benefit and while old, still available on Amazon: (They are, for me, terrific!!! and might be for you)
--The Thin Book By A Formerly Fat Psychiatrist by Theodore Isaac Rubin. M.D.
--Forever Thin by Theodore Isaac Rubin,M.D. (read the first listed book first if possible.)
--Alive & Well And Thinning In America by Theodore Isaac Rubin, M.D.
--The Five Reasons We Overeat by Cynthia G. Last, Ph.D.

Spiritual support for weight loss

No, this is not a nutritional guide. As the title implies, it addresses the feelings and emotions surrounding weight gain our eating habits. If you've dieted for any period of time, by now you know the facts - eat less and you will lose weight. This book is something different.

Essential reading

I LOVE this book. I wake up every day to read it at my local library. In fact, I drive to other libraries that either close late, or open early before I go to work. This book is heaven sent. I thank God that I came across this book. Thank you Dean Ornish, Oprah and Marianne for writing this book. I have learned so much about self love. Marianne is the truth!
